I've noticed that a number of carts are carrying around PVC tubes and ends to hold their tig rods. are the rods actually safe in the PVC? would aluminum be a better choice for storage?RobRobTA 185Lincoln 180cEconoPak 50 PlasmaSouthBend Heavy 10Clausing 8250 MillSouthBend Shaper 7Chevalier Surface GrinderPowermatic 15" vari speed Drill Press
Reply:pvc has worked really well for me for years. It is easy to work with, comes in all sizes and just slipping on a cap seals it pretty well. If you put steel filler in an aluminum tube for a long time you may get galvanic corrrosion.

Reply:I wonder if you could put a silica gel pack in the bottom of the tube to prevent moisture issues (if there is any).JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996)

Reply:this is a really good pic of a clean setup. I've done some research on PVC and found that it is not permeable to light/humidity. In fact, you have to purchase" special permeable" PVC if you want those characteristics. so I'll go with the PVC route. Reply:I only store full length rods in the tubes, and the tubes are somewhat permanently mounted in the rack . The top cap of each tube is removable, and has rod data marked on it with a Sharpie. If I have a partial rod left over from a project it goes in a "short" holder on my bench.RexLast edited by rode2rouen; 12-29-2011 at 07:54 AM.Reason: speelage
