I am building a rolling cart for a family friend and on top of it will sit a 1962 Flair stove. The stove weighs around 100-120lbs. I planned on using 1 1/2" square tubing (.120 wall) and my question: Is there a formula to figure out how much weight my frame will support?I'm sure it will support the stove but I'm just wondering how to figure something like this for future reference...
Reply:you can find load specifications online. but more than likely you'll be more limited by the wheels/casters you use than the metal you use. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:Frame design will play a huge part in this. However with basically 1/8" wall, 1 1/2" tube, I could probably build a simple 4 legged cart that would support a big block V8 with no issues as far as carrying the weight. The big issue would probably be stability. Tall and thin is less stable than short and wide. 120 lbs is nothing when spread over 4 legs. I could probably hold the thing up on stacked empty soda cans with no problems. Your chair supports more weight..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Appreciate the replys...The castors will be 2" screw in type for adjustability and they are rated at 80lbs. per wheel.Just a basic rectangle frame 24" x 40" up top and an angle iron frame below to hold a butcher block shelf.Last edited by CGCINC; 12-29-2011 at 11:16 AM.

Reply:I just Googled, allowable uniform loads for square tube charts. A website with this pdf file came up. If I knew how to post a pdf file I would so you could have it. Reply:It works as long as you can pull up the PDF file from a link, rather than having it on your computer. ( guess if you could post the PDF to some other host it would work that way also.) Since most times I need to search the web for the PDF anyways, say a manual from Miller, I just copy paste the link to the PDF.What was the original topic anyways?.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
