Well fella's here it is.. my first day of welding on TIG... I have about an hour and half now of experience on TIG... and about 40 minutes of that was figuring out how to manipulate the torch and pedal and feed the rod into it... and on top of that.. I couldn't figure out which hand to use with which.. so I took a pic of a piece with both on it.. you decide... left hand with torch in it.. is on left.. and right hand torch is on right.. and yes I know it is not straight.. and I suck... Just new to all of this right now...
Reply:Looks like a fine start to me!I'm right-handed and hold torch in the right, I believe that is the typical way.Looks like you are having fun, now you just need practice and more practice....John
Reply:IF this is your own tig outfit at home, i'd suggest you prepare in advance all the tungstens you can & have them at the ready at or near your welding table . Save a lot of time stopping to do it when you are wanting to be WELDING . I'm sure you've been told about the prep (cleaning) that is necessary for decent HELI-ARCING . ( i know- the Linde Trade mark name . )[SIZE="5"Yardbird"
Reply:It is not my machine.. it is at my college.. and the cleaner the metal the better.. or so I have been told.. and as far as learning goes... I know I have a long ways to go...Thanks for the input guys!!! And as you can see, I need all the help I can get...
Reply:The best thing you can do is spend all the time you can afford with that machine to get better. Post pics and the folks here will help you improve.Nice for first time.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If you have a grinder to sharpen the tungstens buy 3 or 4 sticks and cut then into 3 or four pieces. Sharpen both ends of each piece and take them to class. This will let you spend more time under the hood.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:Actually I did almost that.. .I had 3 or 4 tips sharpened up.. and just welded as much as I could today.. but I am not where I want to be yet... and I also realize that I am not going to be perfect overnight.. so all in all.. I think I am bout right on par... but would love to be ahead... Just having a hard time getting that "color" in the weld... |
