Been tig welding with transformer based machines for the past 14+ years. Just got an inverter based Everlast and am struggling with consistency on aluminum. Seems so finicky and just a little different than I'm used to. Are all inverters this way? The cleaning around the beads is too much when it feels dialed. If I adjust the balance to lessen the cleaning its not good. Also the tungsten seems to be much more susceptible to arc wandering. Subtle changes in stick out of the tungsten change the weld quite a bit. Spent all day yesterday on a job and am embarressed to show the customer. If i build another part I'm sure I'll have the same results.. Feel like I am learning how to weld all over. Any one else dealt with this? I'm considering sending the machine back and going back to what I know. If someone has a suggestion, I'm all ears...HammerFile Big Hammer------------------------------Here, let me Google that for you...
Reply:What machine are you using? what metal are you welding, what thickness, what gas are you using, what are the settings on the machine, and what tungsten are you using?

Reply:I don't do a lot of Tig welding, but I've got to the point where I just use the orange Ceriated for everything with my Dynasty. When using my 330A/BP I used pure (green) for aluminum, and 2% for mild steel and stainless steel. Don't take my advice they're some here who have forgotten more about Tig welding than I'll ever know.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Try lanthanated 2% on the inverter, I found that much better than red on inverter,  had a 330abp too beforfe my inverter tig.   Us a pointed tungsten rather than balled on inverter tig too.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Glad u got it figured out.    Your solution does support some arguments we have made at WW.  One is that an advanced inverter welder is not for newb welders.   Can u imagine someone with no welding or tig experience trying to figure out the same issues you had.   They would probably end up blaming the machine.... and we all know how that would end being the machine is green.   I guess that is one disadvantage of analog vs digital interface that u don't really have a default start setting.  Wheras most digitals have a preset on each control.    It would take my 3 year old son about 2 seconds to reset every dial on the 250ex...  heh..Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
