There are a few places that buy scrap, but they won't sell it to me as an individual on a one-off basis. I read here from time to time of people finding good project pieces and paying by the pound. I've searched google and haven't found anything helpful.Thank you!!
Reply:Yep same here. Don't go to metal supermarket in villa park, they charge full price for scrap.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:hi, try Waukegan Steel in Waukegan Illinois , they use to sell to walk ins. You may want to call first; they may know of others too.http://www.waukegansteel.com/
Reply:I had heard that the biggest scrap yard in Chicago was Solder Field but I don't know if they resell or not
Reply:Not scrap, but Adam's Steel in McHenry is ok. Pricing isn't terrible... I use onlinemetals.com as my price comparison most of the time. I have also heard good things about Waukegan Steel.Problem is scrap metal is being eaten up by scrappers. Over by my shop I see them pickin the garbage allllll the time for pretty much anything they can find.JoeMiller 140 Autoset (2010)Miller Syncrowave 250 (1996) |
