I "ve been assuming that a metal table top with a ground clamp attached can shock you when you're welding, is this true?
Reply:yes I have been zapped when tigging and had short sleeve shirt on and i hear it will happen if you have been sweating also.
Reply:What are you actually doing ?MIG, TIG, stick, plasma cutting ?Cheers, Tony._________________________________Transmig 310 + Argoshield LightOxy acetyleneOxy propanePrehistoric stick welder_________________________________
Reply:I have with tig. Good ground or you can become it. Uncomfortable but harmless.Tim Beeker.
Reply:It depends on the machine and some times the wiring in the building.Generally no, but wet gloves changing electrodes can do it, Changing the tungsten with your foot on the pedal is a big one. Standing in water changing electrodes is not a good thing either. All are worse using AC of course.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If I'm tig welding on AC and get my arm (above my glove and below my jacket) on the table I have been shocked when I strike an arc. I don't usually hang around standing on the pedal to see if that changes as the weld progresses... Keep your sleeves pulled down and your gloves on and you'll be farther ahead.KevinHobart Handler 210Tweco Fabricator 181iLincoln Squarewave Tig 175

Reply:ive taken a zap from stick welding while sweaty, I was proping to stable my electrode and apparently I had a lil too much condensation.
Reply:I've taken an hf zap on the back of the head while manuvering the tig torch/ cable over my shoulders and accidentally stomping the pedal... Hair don't grow back there no more. And worst part, the old lady witnesed the whole mishap...
Reply:My table is permanently grounded and I have never been shocked. |
