now that I've seen the other new mig cart, im not as proud, but it was a good first day.linclon weldpak 3500HDFCAW .035 wirevoltage tap BThis was my first real project even though I've had the thing since last december. I've done some MIG with this welder but I figured the FCAW process would give me the ability to get better penetration so thats what I chose. It was really easy to get good welds on the first shot, I only had to grind out two of them, and I blew one hole through the gun holder piece. I can now say without a doubt that I'm addicted. One thing that I was curious about though, why is it that with this machine, you can weld heavier materials with FCAW? I would just assume that MIG would somehow be superior but the chart on the side of the machine recommends less wire speed and power with FCAW compared to MIG. Just something thats been nagging me.Maybe with some grinding and paint it won't look too bad but anything is better than the little roll around thing that it came with.-Greg Attached ImagesLast edited by Greg Goff; 06-17-2009 at 11:57 PM.

Reply:solid wire penetrates less because the shield gas, at room temperature, is cooling the puddle. may be other reasons too.
Reply:Stability is one question....Another, say if I stumbled and hit the whole structure in the corner... Will it hold?...

Reply:i applaud your effort. I do suggest you do a search for "cart" or "welding cart" and check out some pictures of what others have build to get ideas. you might want to build a welding table pretty soon, so please search for "table" or "welding table" and check out all the tables that people have build to get some ideas. there are "standard features" that people build into their welding carts, such as the cable hanger that you also made. perhaps, taking a peek on some others' carts, you can see why others build it their way?good luck
Reply:Are you going to add casters? maybe you can use the ones from the other cart. |
