Thanks to all who answered my questions regarding hard wire in a LN25. I acquired the bits and pieces to convert the box and here is a few pics of first welds. The cart is 2.5" rectangular tube about 1/8" wall and the flatbar is 3/16" with some 1/4". Plate top is 1/4" left over from another project. The weld sample is on 3/16" plate to 1/8" wall tube. The flat beads on the left were dragging and the right flats were pushing. The fillets are nearly the same the left one was dragging and the right one pushed. The flats on the top of the tube are 5/64 fluxcore and the other of course the mig. Using 75/25 with .035 wire. I cannot believe I waited so long to do this. Welding with this setup is more like running a caulking gun; the less than perfect areas are all the operator. Last edited by sunline; 03-06-2008 at 03:21 PM.
Reply:Looking good.  You and I have a pretty similar setup...I just use a hobart hefty instead...but, your welds look pretty nice.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Thanks, the Powcon is one of the best welders I have ever used tho I will admit to not using that many. Nice part of this equation tho is with simple conversion I am back to FC for outdoor work. Have a 200sm which is much lighter than the 300 for that as well. Have a hard time not buying every powcon that comes up on Craigs...
Reply:Hey a PowCon!  Cool!   Nice welds too!I only use my 300SM for stick welding nowadays since the mig function isn't working anymore.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:Your LN-25 looks to be the vintage of mine by the voltmeter.  (1987-8).  My dad bought one once he used mine.  Since then I purchased his to add to my collection.    The first one I bought has run a LOT of wire.   Your welds look great.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Looks just like mine too and it is about an '88.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:Thanks guys, it is an 88 or 89 I forget which. Bought it new and ran somewhere on the order of 10 cases of nr211 5/64 through it building a boat. Got nailed a lot from grinding sparks and the like but has been bullet proof. Only thing I remember ever breaking was a feed roller. I will repost my pics of test welds with the flash off this time...Just finishing up another kitchen addition; 1.5x3 rectangular tube table frame. Grinning silly at how much better this looks than fc.... the design phase of this stuff is what is getting me, big layout effort for the birch ply top with care to layout on the bottom so cutting up through the good side only to find that the other shelf had to be flipped over. At least it was the shelf...Last edited by sunline; 03-08-2008 at 09:56 AM.Airco 300 squarewaveMig welding center...Powcon sm300/LN 25Powcon sm200/PD lHypertherm PM 1100Miller AEAD 200LE W/LN25 FCand now another sm200 pd l combo.
