Ok, I got my grinders home and did some cleaning then tried again. I tried to slow down and work into a round puddle-I hope this is a little better. I am using .035 prostar(praxair) ER70S-6 wire, 75/25 gas and most of these were at 230ipm and 18v with 25 cu/ft per hr flow. This 255c has been a demo and I don't know if somethings wrong but while welding I get a good sizzle and then every 10 or 15 seconds it pops and sputters and I can feel the wire bump the metal. I checked my ground and even relocated it a to fresh ground spot always close to the weld. OK, I will work on the photography also. Attached Images

Reply:Looking good, Try another volt or .5 volts.  You got the C model, so use it.  Try and be a little more steady.  Make the bead look as smooth as you can.  What size is the plate?DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Yup... up the power and try turning the gas down to 15 to see if it makes any difference.  You may not need to be running on 25.

Reply:Your movin' in the right direction, do what they said and keep practicing. If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:That fillet is cold lapped onto the vertical piece. What gage is that 1/8 inch or 3/16?You need way more heat...22-24 volts, I'd say. Slow down, weave, linger at the toes. You got a long ways to go.

Reply:yes turn the heat up some more.  a little less wire and leave the gas alone.  and be consistent but other than that looks good.
Reply:Are you pushing your gun in the direction you are travelling or are you dragging it? I would say more heat, but my 255 does fine @18V and 240IPM  on 1/8" material.  Try around 19V and 280, or maybe 21V and 320IPM with a slight forward push of the gun.   See how that does.I'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:As for your wire feeling like it hits the metal. Move slower, you may be moving to fast at points and loosing your puddle. Also turn the heat up more to keep a hotter puddle, to avoid that.At 230ipm I run my machine at about 18.5-19V, also a 255CTurn your gas down a little, no need for that much gas if your welding inside.Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor
