Reply:I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Once I get power for it I'll be able to starting burning rod. The guy says its AC/DC and goes to 150 amps. Should be perfect for my skill level at this point.I'm stoked! Can't wait to get it tomorrow.....
Reply:It looks like it's going to need some work to put it fully back into shape, but it should be a fun project. From the picture it looks like some of the connectors on the front panel need replacing. A really good cleaning inside and out would be a good idea before you try to use it too.Let us know how you do and show us some pictures of it in the repair / completed state. Those old welders usually are still in very usable condition and only require some TLC to give them new life. Several years ago I bought a DialArc HF for $200, cleaned it up and gave it a paint job, fixed a few simple things, and it's doing great. I doubt that the new "electronic" welders will live as long as these old ladies.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.

Reply:I purchased this machine today....... I will post pics later this week....... No time today.......I found a similar thread here: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=45860Here's the story of my purchase........I met Tom at 4pm today. This box was out in the field plugged into 220 on a pole. It has been exposed to the elements on his property for many years. Before that the man who owned it used it for many years and died at 90 years old. Before that..... I don't know......Tom had some rusty pipe and some 6013, 6011, and 7018 laying on the ground next to the pole. The machine has a scratched in + and - on the top box that I barely noticed, but it was set to DCEP. I couldn't get the arc to go and was getting frustrated. I switched polarity (easy with this machine)....... And bang...... Easy arc..... I mean easy,........ Even on rusty crap metal with crap rod. Even the LO Hi rod ran smooth (no oven...... In the weather). The machine needs TLC. But damn......... A 70 year old AC/DC box with unknown hours of use........ And abuse........ From WWII........ And poor leads...... WORKS...... And works well!
Reply:And weighs damn near 300 lbs. probably Welded a liberty ship........ I'm stoked on my purchase...... Thanks for encouragement to buy this!

Reply:I wanted to post some better pics of my new...... er ...... um....... old welder.I don't have 220 installed yet, but when I do i will post some welding shots. This thing needs work, and I will be getting new leads for it too since the ones I bought with the machine are weathered and tired. I'm having a guy at work help me do it right. The way it works is to plug the lead on the box on the top into the amps setting on the bottom. The ground is pushed into the box on the bottom so I need to fix that. Then, you plug the leads into the top. The left plug used to say "Electrode" and the right plug used to say "Ground". I can reverse them to be straight or reverse DC polarity.I don't yet know how to make it run AC........... I thought I did..... but I don't.Here are the pics..... (sorry for the quality.... took them with the I-Pad.....) Attached Images
Reply:A few pics of the leads as they are now.....I will be replacing these and then selling these for copper cash. Attached Images
Reply:And Finally....THIS IS WHY THIS MACHINE STILL WORKS AFTER 70 FRIGGIN YEARS!USA Baby! Attached Images |
