Lincoln AC225 Copper Weight

Hey guys just wondering If anyone knows about how much copper is in an old Lincoln ac 225. Just thinking about scraping it out because i don't use it any more, and there is a ton of them for sale on C.L. Or maybe ill just list it and see what happens.     Thanks, 66plymouth.

Reply:The problem is that even old looking Lincoln AC-225 (labelled Lincweld in Canada) used aluminum wound transformers.  I've refurbished 6 of these.  I had one really old boy... two-piece back, cut-outs slots instead of louvers, sealed electrohome fan motor with aluminum blades and #3 gauge cables - still had aluminum wire for transformer windings.  So you better have a really-really old AC-225 if you hope to find copper wire - and you better check inside.Rick V 1 Airco Heliwelder 3A/DDR3 CTC 70/90 amp Stick/Tig Inverters in Parallel1 Lincoln MIG PAK 151 Oxy-Acet

Reply:None of the AC-225 models ever had a copper wound transformers - the shellac on the winding only makes them look like copper, but they have always been aluminum wound. Some of the older Lincoln AC-180's that do not have a cooling fan are copper wound and look very similar to the AC-225.Would be a real shame to scrap a working welder anyways.  Put it on Craigslist at a fair price and it will eventually sell for more than scrap even if it had been copper wound.

Reply:I bought a brand new AC225 ( It had no cooling fan ) about 38 years ago it Cost me 2 weeks pay at the LWS it was $99.95. After about 10 years or so it quit working so I took it apart and found a broken lead from the transformer it was squire copper so I drilled a hole in it and taped it ( can't remember what size) then took some round copper and thrided it screwed it in and soldered it worked as good as new. Reply:Yeah... I only had mine for like a year when I sold it to help cover my Stickmate. I love my Hobart and all, but I kinda wish I woulda kept it. It was my first welder, and its kinda like a first car/truck that way, you get attached to the things.
