How many manufactures are there for MIG guns? Which stand out as the best quality while being light weight? I ask because i need a new mig gun for my Lincoln welder (350MP). I don't have the $1500 that MK wants for their python. I've been looking at Bernard and it appears that Tweco makes the original one that's bulky and fairly heavy. I don't need push pull. Josh
Reply:Honestly my Miller Roughneck 400A is a nicely-sized gun for it's size. But that's heresy to put on a Lincoln. I have a preference for Bernards otherwise (still in cahoots with Miller, but it's not such obvious blasphemy).
Reply:I have tried several but I really like the Bernard's they work well and are fairly comfortable
Reply:Another vote for Bernards. Comfortable, not too heavy, durable, quality design.. I like the centerfire tips and nozzle attachment. I really dislike the tweco style nozzle, spins and can move up or down causing havoc with stick out if you dont keep an eye on it.Jay DavisAWS-CWIC-60 Specialty Welding ContractorLoving husband, and father of two boys (

Reply:Tweco for me, takes the abuse of high amp.
Reply:Have you seen the new lincoln magnum 350? I have one and its kind of stiff but a one turn screw on gas nozzle and larger contact tips that take the heat well. I use it for pulsed spray. Heavy duty strain relief on each end and it comes apart for repair if ever needed.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:How heavy and awkward is the new 350 magnum. I'm really looking at Bernard, i hear a lot of good about them the gun i want is fair priced but I'm not sure of some small details like angle of the head or curved handle. Another issue is what type of gas diffuser should i purchase, the center fire seems like a neat idea but i don't want to be a guinea pig. Any and all advise is welcome. Josh
Reply:http://www.lincolnelectric.com/Catal....aspx?p=105465Its a club. Works well, but not near the felxability of a magnum 300. It takes a lot more heat for pulsed spray with out the handle getting hot.I have a bernard 500 amp I hope to never use. DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:The Bernards are nice, Twecos are OK, the Lincoln Pro 350's and Pro 400's I've also used a lot of, and work quite well. The coarser threads for the HD contact tips are nice (don't cross thread as easily when the gun is hot), likewise for the nozzles. The Pro 400 was the only gun I used that was still manageable when doing inconel spray applications. The guns that use the slip on nozzles are better if you need to use oddball nozzles on a regular basis, e.g. tapered, chiseled, etc.

Reply:I bought a bernard knock off from weldingdepot.com for cheap. It takes the same consumables as the bernard and I like them. Its a 400 amp gun pretty heavy duty. I was using that for pulsed spray until I got the Lincoln 350 magnum. The lincoln feeds the wire smoother, maybe because its new. I tried to get a 3/4" or 75 nozzle and the guy at LWS could not find it listed. Biggest it goes is 62 or 5/8.Look herehttp://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...ml?id=42yBXzZBThis is the one I bought. Used it on Cell towers and for pulsed spray at the shop.http://store.weldingdepot.com/cgi/we...ml?id=VaTLWCvVDavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. |
