Rod Storage Box With Pics

I made this box (24"X 18"X 18") with a 60 watt light bulb inside to keep my rods dry. The temperature stays around 80°. Here's a few pictures.Happy New Year Attached Images

Reply:Lotta bucks in those 50lb cansHave you been able to come up with a relative humidity gauge.  I forget what they're called.  Be interesting to see if the humidity in the storage box changes with the seasons.Heat, in and of itself, isn't always the answer to humidity.  If the inside air in the box is humidity laden, you might be creating a sauna.I had this question for myself last year when I picked up a protable rod oven.  Was I actually keeping the rods dry, or creating a super heated moist environment on a very humid day?  I'm not really sure, but I'd like to actually measure the humidity."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:bigduck, thanksNo, the insulation does not cause a problem, and no I don't use gloves,but glad you mentioned that. Need to rethink the way I handle it.farmersamm,3 of those 50lb cans were given to me from a retired pipeliner ( 2 cans 5/32, 1 can 3/16--70+ ) I don't know if I'll ever burn those rods, been having them 4 or 5 years now.I built the box some 25+ years ago, and all I can say is I never had a problem with moisture in the rods. As for the humidity, you have a good point, and as you can see I live in south Louisiana and the humidity is always high. I think a barometer measures the moisture and if they're not to expensive I'll buy one. You've got me curious.fchesser78,Thanks, it has worked well. Happy New Year
Reply:Cajun a barometer measures air pressure not moisture. You need a hygometer to do that. I believe you can find these in serious woodworking supply stores for those storing and drying wood.You could always add one of those small buckets of desicant to help remove the moisture..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:DSW,Thanks, for the info. I'm going to look into it, because I'm curious as to the amount of humidity in the box compared to outside. Thats only if the meter isn't to expensive.
