I made a chain steering wheel for a john deere model A 1939 Getting the chain tight is a little tricky. I had many failed attempts. I took a round handle-wheel off an old os&y valve is about 16'' around. I wanted 18'' but the links didn't work out so 17'' would work. I wrap a thin peice of alum. strap around the wheel and clamped it then wrap the chain around that and release the clamps so the strap would spring out and hold the chain tight. tig welded the links . Made the center hub on the lathe. Used some 9/16 hex I had laying around . I think it's kinda cool. what you think JD yellow or green, maybe powder coat???Daye Attached Images
Reply:I think its kinda cool myself. Chain links green the rest yellow.
Reply:Looks neat. Just make darn sure you never get a finger caught in the chain if that has manual steering..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Neat wheel, very creative, but I was wondering if it is ridgid or is there some flex between the spokes?
Reply:Hmmm, looks you have been hanging out with the low riders.
Reply:NEAT! Gotta go with JD yellow and green.
