The maintenance guys at work needed me to weld this small tank together for a new boiler that they are installing in the foundry. The barrel section is 1/8" wall 10" ms pipe, the plate is also 1/8" ms, the bung opening (for a drain valve) is a 3/16" wall, 2" threaded coupling. TIG welded @ 100 amps, 3/32" ceriated tungsten, 1/16" ER70S2 on barrel-plate & 3/32" ER70S2 for coupling-barrel. Reply:Very nice job buddy did you walk it around the coupling?
Reply:No, I didn't walk the cup. Not to bring on a whole subject; but when I was in school, one of the instructors would yell at anyone he saw doing it. I used ~1/4" stick-out (gives better control of arc and pool inside 90 deg. corners) with a gas lens.Last edited by papabear; 01-07-2010 at 06:39 PM.
