How do you clean the white bands that run along side my alloy weldsI seem to have mastered the welding side but this i just can find anywhere.I need the work to not be scratched in the process of removal of this white crazy stuff.Doesnt matter if there isnt a method for it but was worth a try to see what some people have come across in the field.cheers
Reply:If you are referring to the white bands on the edge of an aluminum. This would be the sight of clean aluminum with barely any oxidation. No need to clean it it is clean from the DC+ side of the AC sign wave. I guess i don't understand what you are asking. --Gol'
Reply:you can get rid of it by turning your claning balance down if possible but some time it wont go away6G zirconium 702 GTAW 2" xxheavy6G P.E.D. carbon steel GTAW 2" xxheavy3G titanium Gr. 2 - Gr. 7 GTAW up to 3/4" 3G 316L stainless GTAW up to 1" 3G carbon steel GTAW up to 1" 3G Hastalloy GTAW up to 3/4"1G tantalum GTAW up to .060"
Reply:yeah i know welding alloy you get the white bands but i wanted to know if there is a solution or something you can by were it wipes off instead of brushing it off or high speed polishing.I suppose you carnt have the best of both worlds with this as stated the welding is perfect its just this white **** beside the welds i need gone..

Reply:I use a wire brush, perhaps a schotchbrite pad would be less abrasive.  I know of no solution, but have not tired anything.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

Reply:Maybe acetone on a rag would help remove it without scratching the weld?  I haven't tried it for that purpose.   It does help in removing oxide on the surface before welding, maybe after too?  For me, I just brush it off with a stainless wire toothbrush if I dont want to see the white bands.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
