Well. I was bored today.. Had a few beers and decided to begin a new workstation for myself. Added a nice paddle for some variable weld positions so far.Lots to add yet but it's started anyhows Last edited by WelderBC; 01-16-2010 at 09:01 PM.
Reply:Nice rig. Is the beer a permanent feature of your set up?
Reply:Haha naw... but starting to feel like it should be.. Sure made the day go better... I'll need a crane to hoist the table to another position it's about 675 LBS lol. Pretty darn close by my math but hey it's solid!. I need a better truck now to haul all my riggin.
Reply:The workstation is looking good and you have a serious welder there, but I gotta tell you, that strap you got holding them tanks together is looking pretty sarcy. I'm guessing that's temporary or actually I'm hoping its temporary. I have some of those straps and they have a tendency to strecth. Don't mean to be a smart a##..
Reply:Actually there's bases on the skid for each bottle so they don't even move at all without the strap even. It's just value added for extra safety. That was important to me to have a very secure bottle mount. I'll try and get some photos of the actual base tank mounts over the next few days. I got a steal on the welder. 3k taxes in with 200 hours on it only, covered always, and stored in a heated garage, started once a month. It's an 04.. Pretty good shape!
Reply:I cry, pizz and moan, and generally fold, when the temp falls below 40.I promise, never again"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Haha today was a mild day at about -9 :Celcius. (-9 ºC = 15.8 ºF)Can get -40 to -50 celcius here with a cold snap.-40 ºC = -40 ºF-50 ºC = -58 ºF
Reply:Nice set up. Ya gotta wonder how many great inventions were started with a few beers   Welders always run better in the snow don't they?A man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:COOL.Your table needs a bev. holder on a leg under the tabletop...[B]Forever learning[B].
Reply:Haha normally I wouldn't have a beer working away, but it was in my yard on a Saturday and I actually rarely drink these days. Just had an unusual thirsty spell would be the correct definition. I also partially blame it on my friend who runs a button top loader at a sawmill for bringing the case over at 9 am I wish the snow would go away so I can construct my garage.... Few more months ..sigh

Reply:Looks great, this may be a dumb question but how does the paddle on the table work for the various weld positions, im sure I will feel stupid after you tell me.Nick
Reply:Just in case WelderBC dosen't get back to you, that paddle can turn 360 degrees and the arm can turn 360 degrees around the colume and also move up and down which can pretty much get you any angle needed. You can clamp a piece of square tubing to the table and another to the paddle and angle it any where you need .(Note) Al at SmokinPRanch just built a nice welding table and I don't belive I saw one of those on it? How about it Al, another add on?
Reply:Yeah I'll sure enough have to fab me up one of those paddles. It'll work perfect in the work table. Looks like it will accommodate all sorts of angles to really confuse me. When I saw it I thought, "why didn't I think of that?". Being a designer that bothered me so I did a root cause analysis to find out why I didn't think of it. After numerous calculations and referring to previous case studies involving nuclear powered rocketry I concluded the core problem...not enough beer. I will be implementing an emergency quality control initiative to increase beer consumption during the design and construction phases of future projects. Reply:I actually have certificates from Budweiser, having attended their training course in Orlando Florida ( I went twice cause it was free beer and they changed the fella doing the presentation so they wouldn't recognize me there the second time). As you know, nothing can replace real world experience. I have conducted numbers of actual tests to try to answer the centuries old question of proper amounts of beer. Often times I have placed myself at great risk while conducting these experiments. There have been times where my familt name has neen in jeopardy of permanent damge while others scoffed at my quest for the truth. And you thought Al gore had it tough with global warming...a mere amateur.Hey wait!! Al gore makes millions odf dollars doing that. My studies have probably cost me million of dollars. Time for more research...and more beer.AlA man is judged by what's between his legs...always ride a good horseMiller DialArc HFLincoln Classic 300DThermal Arc 181iPowermax 45Scotchman Ironworker(2) BridgeportsOkomota Surface GrinderAutoCAD 2010
Reply:Wow, that's a lot of snow, what part of B.C. are you in?I'm in Pickering, Ontario (suburb of Toronto), my lawn is green, the snow is gone, have not had to use the snow blower yet.I love this global warming thing.Regards to all.Working on cars and bikes is my hobby, learning to weld the pieces together is my quest.
