Been working on mounting a Boss Vee plow on a 98 Ram 2500.  Couldn't locate an undercarriage that fit the truck and was the RTII.  Ended up modifying the old one to fit.  What a pain in the ***.  Anyways, I thought I had it whooped and was trying to put the plow on the truck.  2hrs later I gave up.....I think unhooking on a snow bank was a bad idea.  The hydraulics where giving me trouble, and I found one of the heavy cables frayed and almost broke so I have to get a new one.  I forgot my camera in the garage so I will have to post up pics later. For now I just have a question.  For those that own a Boss Vee plow with joystick control, does the pump run all the time when you have the rocker switch on?  I didn't think it did on the truck I took the plow off of, but now it does.  I didn't  modify that part of the wiring either.  I thought the pump was only supposed to run when the blade was being moved. My name's not Jim....

Reply:Usually when we have problems with hydraulics, whether on our Meyers, Fishers, or Western's It's usually cause by 1 of 3 things. 1st check would be low electrical power, a dead alternator. That should be easy to rule out.2nd is low fluid. usually caused by a slow leak. The hydraulics will act strange sometimes. You go to raise and the blade angles instead, It will turn one way but not well the other. Often the fluid has foamed and it's a PITA to get the foam down so you can fill the reservoir back up. With  the foam in there it will act like it's full and not take fluid. Meyers are a real PITA with this. It takes forever to get all the air/foam out of the system. You fix the problem and it works fine for 1/2 an hour, then acts up again because the system has pushed air from the lines back to the reservoir  where it foams again and the problems reappear.3rd is water in the oil that has frozen. Again depending on where this tiny amount of water is can cause all sorts of odd function issues. If it ices up in the solenoid valves it can cause issues similar to those in #2 above. Usually letting it sit for a few hours in a warm shop will resolve an icing issue, but I've spread up the process with tarps and heaters in a pinch. The solution to this is simple. Drain the system and refill with new fluid being careful not to get water in while filling. You don't list the actual problem, so I can only guess. I believe the Boss is similar in design with the V plow Fishers we use and the pump runs only when you want to move the hydraulics.Last edited by DSW; 01-19-2010 at 11:43 AM..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:If the pump continually runs then the SOLENOID is fried..Been there done that many times with my Fisher..Follow the battery cable under the hood to the electronics..You'll find it.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:No loaner needed, I found the problem just after I posted.  Wires to the switch were broken/shorted in the joystick.  I fixed it then got the go ahead from the guy to order new lights and some other parts even though this thing is turning out waaayyy more expensive than we thought.  I guess that's what happens with used stuff.  He just said, "we know it will be 100% when you get done with it, that's what we like."  That's what I like to hear.  So far I've donated almost an hour for every one charged just to keep the costs under control. I'm not going to charge this guy new price for used stuff.  Maybe that's foolish, but it keeps the customers happy and happy customers come back.  In fact, they've got more work for me to do this week. Also got some before and after pics of the mount I had to modify. Attached ImagesMy name's not Jim....
Reply:Glad to hear you found the issue. I hate trying to fit old plows to different vehicles. Almost always I recommend they just buy the correct frame mount for the vehicle and we work out from there. Usually by the time you get done rebuilding the original, or fabing one from scratch, it costs just as much as getting the right one..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:That was my first choice DSW, but I have been casually looking for a mount since before Xmass.  I knew this job was coming.  I called several dealers and the general consensus was that they were discontinued and used was the only option.  One dealer thought he had one, but couldn't locate it.  So I gave up and bought some steel and went to work.  The mount actually ended up right about new price if we could have got one new.  That was to be expected.  All the extra labor ended up in tracking down little problems here and there with the truck and plow.  Both had issues before I ever got near them.My name's not Jim....
Reply:I hear you on that. Had the same sorts of issues mounting one on an old Jeep pickup, and an old 70's Ford. Luckily most of ttimes are moving a plow from a dead truck to a newer one and the mounts are still available..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Glad to hear it was something simple for you. Looks pretty good to.
