Hey guys I'm building a large wine rack that calls for at least#100, 1/4", 4-5" diameter rings to set the bottles in, any body know where I could buy these premade? I really don't wanna go through the time of makin all these, thanks for any help
Reply:There are cast aluminium ones available for balustrading , they are usually 3.5" OD with 0.25" wall. Too small?Thought about cutting some pipe?A good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:Cutting pipe can get you almost any exact size that you want. Requires a band saw (though doable on a chop saw) and a 12-pack of beer. It's the easiest way to get rings made out of something other than mild steel, too.My steel suppliers in Las Vegas (not where I am now, though) have pre-made 4" rings rolled from 1/2" square steel tubing. They are quite reasonably priced and I've bought them for designs in fencing before. You can also try browsing through www.kingmetals.com. I'd bet they have them and will ship anywhere in the USA, which is where I am assuming you are, since you don't tell us. You should put it in your profile, so we'll always know.
Reply:schedule 40 black pipe at local plumbing supply, pipe size is same as inner diameter up to 12", wall around .25 inch (sch 10 about half of that) ..probably around $100 for a 20 footer of 4" ..bandsaw means less grinding than chopsaw, maybe..
Reply:I use king metals quite a bit, I'm looking for 4.5 dia .25 thick round bar rings, they have close to that for 93cents a piece, which is my best option so far. I'm gonna need almost 250 of em

Reply:You might try these guys http://www.orleansornamental.com/ I get most of my stuff from them. They are always happy to take the time to answer any questions you might have and will set you up an account over the phone. They don't even get upset when I call needing the pin for my account, lol. They ship daily and have been in business many years. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist.
Reply:And you still didn't say where you are located in a thread where you are asking us for the best place to find something...?
Reply:oops, Hanford, Ca
Reply:1/4" seems pretty wimpy to me.I would use 3/8".and when I need a couple hundred 3/8" rings, I bend em myself, take an hour or two.I use my hossfeld bender, you can bend a whole 20 footer into rings in ten minutes max.I use pieces of pipe for dies, I have a whole set of em cut from each size of pipe, from 1" up to about 6".With the right tool, you can make exactly what you want, quick and easy. Most of the places like King actually are just retailers, and dont make much themselves- for rings, I would look at Wagner- they sell a lot to King in many categories. I dont think they make 1/4", though.http://www.wagnercompanies.com/site/...ticle&rpid=542Hossfeld making 4" or so diameter rings from 3/8" round hot rolled. Roll up a big coil of em, take em over to the bandsaw and cut em up into individual rings, put em in the vise and tweak em flat with a 24" crescent wrench. No mail order time, no phone time, done by lunch.
Reply:Shadill did say the spec called for round stock...But if deburring 100 or more pieces you can probably get that done by dropping them into a portable cement mixer with a several shovels of washed pea-stone and a few gallons of water. Snap the switch on and run it for five minutes. Then just wipe 'em dry or spread 'em out and spray 'em with WD40 before the brown stuff forms.-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:This is the picture the lady gave me, but she wants custom grape vine work instead of scrolls, 3/8 would be too thick, I gotta fit almost 200 bottles and it's gonna be built in to a big niche at her coast house. Just to show you guys what I'm talking about
Reply:An ornamental metal supplier should be able to get you the rings you're looking for. We use Metal Amore, in San Diego north county. I don't know what their website is or I would post it for you. We just go to their store nearby.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
