I have a fair amount of tig experience, and allot of pipe experience 4 inch & larger, but Im going for a test Im really not qualified for. 2inch pipe, .095 wall, I struggle with 2inch anyhow, but I've never welded thinwall. Rumor has it, they have a couple Dynasty, but mostly Syncrowave. If I have little experience with pulse, would a test be a bad place to try it? Im thinking if I get a Dynasty, I will run about 130pps, but if I get a syncrowave, Im worried Ill be tripping all over 1 or 2pps.  What dothe you think? Is slow pulse something you picked right up, or was like keening to weld all over again? On sheet metal I can pretty well handle "running" with a bead on a traditional scratch start rig, but I can't turn that radius.
Reply:it's never a good idea to try something new at a test, 095 is not that thin anyway, but I don't think they will let you pulse if it's not required in the test procedure. This works for me 1/16 tungsten, 65-70A, ~5sec downslope, no pulse  ONE pass. joint V with no land and no gap, if you get machined coupons with ~1mm land then you need a gap and 2 passes. All this applies for freehand, if you walk the cup it may not work.Good luck--------------------------------------------------------------www.becmotors.nlyup, I quit welding.. joined welder anonymous
Reply:For sanitary piping with an .065 wall 1.5"-2"  I run between 30-50 amps depending on the machine and no pulse, that is for walking the cup.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Im under the impression the whole shop welds on pulse. Perhaps the pipe is thinner than stated, but I know they are all about the pulse. Local Miller man scored big time when they switched recently. On pipe that small, how do you break it up? Like on 6in Id weld in 4 quadrants. On pipe that small is still considered poor form to start/stop at the bottom or top?
Reply:Ask them to see their approved procedure. It should have all the settings listed, and they may help you set them.If they don't have a procedure, ask them to set the parameters and run a sample. Otherwise turn off the pulse.I don't know why they would use it on pipe, but they may have a reason and let you in on the secret. Surely you could do it without pulse. The big difference is that the dynastys weld like not tomorrow.Good luck.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:It was 4in, heavy wall pipe. Two pass, looked great. I hope I get the job. Building heat exchangers, pay is great.
