I'm gonna hopefully build a bed for my rig soon. I already have an idea of how I want it. Does anyone have any tips for fabrication. Like maybe something you wish you'd have done /didn't do. Or little hiccups you found while building one. Or just general tips and tricks. I think any info would be beneficial.

Reply:Lol. I'm a little stumped on the frame because I'm gonna have about a 3" drop for the machine. Not sure if I should use a combination of 5" channel and 2" square tubing. Wish it was a cab and chassis
Reply:A buddy of mine built one for his dodge last year. He used 2x2 sq tubing for frame and cross members. It turned out real nice. 16 gauge for the sides and 10 gauge for the deck. The one thing he didn't do was build lead wells. Now he hasn't had his leads stolen yet, but I would seriously consider building caps or something to secure your leads. Another thing is securing your jack stands. I have seen lots of nice rigs were they are locked up underneath the Hoosier pole setup. How about a rod storage box. A older pipeliner friend of mine has his set into the rear of the bed at the rear of the spare tire. The box holds 3 or 4 boxes of rods standing vertical with a locking top.Are you going to be welding flanges, if so you will want a roll out wheel. One thing you will definitely be glad you have is a step rail around the outside. There is nothing like slipping of a thin edge when it is rings inning and your are trying to reach the fuel fill or anywhere else for that matter.Do you plan on pulling a travel trailer? You may want to set your hitch up closer to rather rear of the truck.Miller Pro 30068 SA 20064 SAF 300305 G Lincoln gasserMiller 210
Reply:Thanks rob. Got the roll out wheel covered. Had one for years. And the jack idea and Hoosier pole combination is a good idea. I've been going back and forth as whether to build a Hoosier or not. Thank you for your input
Reply:You could mount stubs on the bed to remove the Hoosier pole setup. I saw a new bed the other day done like that. It would sure make it easier to service machine.Miller Pro 30068 SA 20064 SAF 300305 G Lincoln gasserMiller 210
