If I were to weld one side of a t-joint would i want to beat the top piece towards or away from the welded side. Thats the best way I can put the question into words. If you need more clarification just ask. ThanksAs said by CHENRY:you cant weld on a thingamajig like that. are you even certified to do thingamajig welding ? I once saw an improperly welded thingamajig fail and eleventy twelvoteen things got ballywhacked. I dont think i would risk it.
Reply:If you get penetration "through the root and beyond", then do a root bend, that would be towards the welded side. A face bend would be the other way. It probably won't bend that way.Get a hammer and have your way with it. See where it breaks. If the weld itself breaks on a root bend, you done good. If it pulls away from one side, you didn't get enough penetration or fusion.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:well for a fillet test you not just gonna beat on it its gunna go in some sort of jig per specs. but if you gunna slam at it with a hammer just do two plates and try both.6G zirconium 702 GTAW 2" xxheavy6G P.E.D. carbon steel GTAW 2" xxheavy3G titanium Gr. 2 - Gr. 7 GTAW up to 3/4" 3G 316L stainless GTAW up to 1" 3G carbon steel GTAW up to 1" 3G Hastalloy GTAW up to 3/4"1G tantalum GTAW up to .060"
Reply:i typically break all of my fillet tests with a hammer, opening the unwelded side
Reply:The steel should bend and tear before your weld gives way. Make it bigger or weld both sides.Take a look here http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=18874Just read the first page David Last edited by David R; 05-06-2008 at 04:22 PM.Real world weldin.
