I've been reading these forums for a couple of months and have seen some great things. I got a used miller 210 for christmas and made this. Still not finished but have used 84 pounds of .030 wire so far. Attached Images

Reply:84 pounds divided by 35 days equals 2.4 pounds per day just in filler wire...on average...that's counting weekends too!  Originally Posted by DSWDon't get much of a chance to weld much huh?

Reply:I'm guessing it's some sort of seed planter if the 1st pict goes with the rest, or posibly some type of cultivator..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:We call it a sandfighter. After a rain when the crop is small, we drag it through the field. The teeth, 1st pic, throws up clods to keep the fine sand from blowing. And yes , my wife made fun of me for spending so much time on it.Millermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
Reply:AH, so the "teeth" you show in the first pic are on some sort of spindle/axle and rotate while pulled behind the tractor basically to make a small furrow? Thus providing a small wind blockage to keep wheat/crops from blowing out in the visious winds? We see in western kansas where farmers will take a small plow or chisle and make strips perpindicular to wind pattern to try and prevent wheat blowout. Not uncommon to see roots and all blown out by the wind.'04 Trailblazer 301GHobart 135Victor O/A
Reply:Here is a picture of a complete sandfighter. It is what I used as a pattern. Mine will cover 19 rows. Attached ImagesMillermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
Reply:AWESOME!!! Do I spy cotton pickers in the forefront? Is cotton what your sand fighter will be trying to keep in the ground? Don't know a thing about cotton, other than there are alot more folks planting it around here. Congrats man, awesome job on a tool/implement that loooks way better built than anything you get from the dealer. "neccessity is the mother of invention"'04 Trailblazer 301GHobart 135Victor O/A
Reply:Thanks. We mostly have cotton and wheat. Some grain sorghum. And the guys with enough water will plant corn. If the cotton gets hailed out or blown out, then we plant grain sorghum (milo). Slagburn, I always say Laziness is the father of invention. I can spend a lot of time trying to find the easier way to do something. Usually a lot more than just doing it.Millermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
Reply:Looks good. That sounds like a lot of wire.Does the whole thing hang on the three point or does it have some sort of wheels for transport and depth control?Trailblazer 302Hobart Stickmate AC/DCLincoln SP 135 TSmith torchSpoolmatic 30A
Reply:You carry it on the 3 point hitch. Usually let it almost all the way down. Each of the gangs have 12 teeth and braces. it took me 14 seconds to weld one bead on one side of each  tooth. i measured it at about 7 feet of wire. I dont know how many feet are on a 44 pound roll.Millermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
Reply:very nice outcome, was it your design? Definately need a bigger machine for some of those thicknesses, you can burn up your machine running it over its Duity Cycle too often. Larger wire + more heat = less time. GOOD JOB
Reply:Thanks. No it's not my design. I copied from another one I bought. Nearly everything is 1/4 inch wall tubing. Would love to have a bigger machine. Guess it will have to wait thoughMillermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
Reply:wow, looks like a lot of work, 84lbs of wire, that's a lot of trigger time. sounds fun.

Reply:looks good. just to give you an idea of how many feet of wire you burned, theres 4960" of wire per pound of 0.030, or 18,186ft per 44lbs, 0.035 has 3650" per pound or 13,383ft per 44lbs.
Reply:If I figured right, I have spent 1/4 the price of buying a new one. That is including the welder as an expense. I did reuse the cylinders and hoses from my old sandfighter.Millermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !

Reply:When i bought the welder, it had a 44 pd roll (almost new). Next i put on a 33pound, 10pound(had to make an adapter. And now i have on another 33pound roll. I could probably have used less, but i wanted to make sure my bead was wide enough. The factory weld on the ganga are about 1/4 wide. that is usually where they break, so mine are wider. Most everything has been set on 6 and wire speed of 55. I cut a sample weld and it looked like it had enough penetration. I hope it holds up in the field.Millermatic 210Miller ThunderboltLincoln Weldpak100Jet BandsawHypertherm Powermax 451 Big Box of Bandaids !
