Reply:Amazing work! I wish I had just 1/10th of your talent. I doubt I could paint a straight line. I would love to have a helmet like one of those. The reaper and Hanibal are my favs.TodHH140HF 4x6 band saw (cut straight right outta the box!)"-Of all the things I've lost... I miss my mind the most."

Reply:Exellent work , a brother kustom painter , i'm not alone in this forum. I paint for a living. I just like hanging out in this forum. great community.trip out -  I also hang-out in this forum ,  It uses the EXACT SAME Software Engine as this site... the coolest AirBrush people in the world there... by the way my name is world in that forum not woi2ld like in this one.http://www.airbrushtech.info/AIRBRUSH/forum/index.php        thermal arc 252i  -  millermatic 350P -   miller XMT, cp300ts, 30a 22a feeders, buttload of other millers, handfull of lincolns, couple of esabs  -   Hypertherm 1250 G3

Reply:Awesome work both of you. Sheesh I can't even paint a wall with a roller GBG. I'd have to say the last helmet and the last tank are my favorites. That tank, it looks like it's 2" thick, beautiful, and the flames on both, I'm not much of a flame person but I wouldn't hesitate to put them on my bike or helmet. You guys have captured the look for sure.....Mike
Reply:the tanks look awsome. it is just a hobby for me so far. welding helmets are good practice and i am a little scared to do somebodies bike until i get a little better. i did my buddies mini chopper but thats it so far. I have done a couple of motor cycle helmets as well, but i wear my hanibal lector helmet so i get alot of guys asking me to paint their helmets. the guy i did the grim reaper for wont wear it anymore and it is hung on his wall because he doesnt want to wreck it. With the wife and my 2 girls in the house and even my dog is female, it is my escape from the estrogen ocean. ha ha Attached Images
Reply:Those are all very cool. How about some pics showing the process? Also, the first 4 welding hoods you showed, what brand are they? One looks like a jackson nexgen but what is the other? I have seen guys paint hood before (not like that) and they put an additive in the paint that allows for flexibility without cracking. Do you have to use something like that?BillUA Local 598
Reply:one is a jackson, a speed glass and a miller elite and a miller hobby. I scuff wet sand the helmet with 600 or 800 grit sandpaper, then spray adhesion premoter on it(can get it in a spray can from any auto body place.( it is what they use on plastic bumbers.) I basecoat it with with whatever color i need. I usualy just use spray can krylon for plastics. It dries pretty quick but i hit it with a heat gun and it seems to help.(not to hot or the paint will burn and peel). Leave it for 24 hours and then airbrush. I have a buddy who owns a body shop and he sprays them with an automotive clear coat witch has a hardener in it. when a body shop does a car they usually throw out what ever clear coat is in the gun so if you just give them 20 bucks cash they will spray your stuff as long as you can wait a couple days. My buddy does it for free because i have airbrushed a bunch of his stuff. They are pretty durable and you can get a flex addative put in the clear coat but a welding helmet is going to get burnt and marked anyway so i dont bother unless somebody wants to pay for it. Welding helmets are cheap becuase you can buy the shell by it self and just pop your lense in it. If you are doing something like a motor cycle than you dont want to be using spray can paints to base it, you want a professional to use the proper paint. You can also paint hard hats for your mask. Its alot of fun and if you want some videos on how to do it check out www.airbrushtricks.com. Here is a couple hard hats as well. Just have fun with it and be creative and you can even make some money doing it. My buddy always says life is to short to look like everybody else. He always gets the craziest paint jobs i can do. Reply:Very Nice work by the painters I used to do some custom paint job on corvettes in my fathers auto body shop. I can be alot of work but certainly nothing like doing the helmets and tanks. I really like the 3d effect of the flames on the silver tank. Nice look of depth to the base color, skulls, clear coat and flames outlined with the blue.Co-Own CNC shop:Miller :1251 plasma cutter, MaxStar 700 TIG/Stick, & XMT 456 Multiprocess Welder.&  2 Hypertherm HPR260's Plasma CutterSorry I had a bad stroke but now I am back.

Reply:bout' a buk fifty.............maybe a $100 because your's is the first to show-off.- i know , the price stinks , nearly the price of the helmet itself. but the time n material is costly too.        thermal arc 252i  -  millermatic 350P -   miller XMT, cp300ts, 30a 22a feeders, buttload of other millers, handfull of lincolns, couple of esabs  -   Hypertherm 1250 G3
Reply:just look around and remember its your welding helmet and you dont want to sink alot of money into it because it will get damaged. The helmets i do i charge 100 bucks and they have to pay 40 bucks if they want it clear coated with automotive clear. if they just want to spray bomb clear it themselves than it is up to them. I spend a few hours on them and am just starting out so i get a rough idea from them and a color and go with it. if you want the art work to look like the tanks above done by a pro then there is alot more time and detail involved and you are going to pay more because its their living and their talent warrents the extra money.  If you look at those tanks and see the depth and shadowing it pretty cool and above my ability but it is also on a motorcycle.  for me it is practice and my time and supplies. just ask woil2d what his hourly rate is? I have no idea what a pro charges but he will also be quicker as i am still slow and working on my skills.  Best of luck and come up with a design and colors and it will be easier for the guy painting it to get what you are looking for.
