Yep..'nother welding table.I figured since most future project can benefit from having a table...Just getting framed up:Another frame shot:One of the better welds:Since I showed the good, let's try the ugly:Welded on an end cap, drilled a hole, welded on a 5/8" nut and threaded a bolt to offer some leveling adjustments. (works pretty good actually)Almost complete:Another angle:Only thing left is to add the expanded metal at the bottom for the shelf, and a couple other little hangers here and there, and she'll be done.Frame was made from 1 1/2" x 1/8" wall square tubing, bottom shelf is 1 1/2" x 1/8" angle, and top is 3' x 5' x 3/16" with 3" over-hang all around.. Total height is 40".Thanks for checking it out. All comments and suggestions welcomed.~TodLast edited by subzero; 02-16-2010 at 12:16 AM.TodHH140HF 4x6 band saw (cut straight right outta the box!)"-Of all the things I've lost... Reply:Cool table....  Nice and Simple.  The expanded will be perfect for the shelf too.For a Newb like me, it's always nice to see the Good, the Bad and sometimes the 'Ugly' Welds   heh, heh...BTW, Is that Square in the middle support as well ?  Looks like a piece of flat by the photo, but that could just be because you got it 'straight on' when you took the picture.  I find that Flats don't do much unless they're turned on their side.Cheers,/J....Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:nice job, what size is the top? 3'x4'?oh, and shame on you for having an almost empty garage
Reply:Thanks guys.jman - that's a piece of 1 1/2" angle there in the middle. Ya just can't see the one edge.oxy - The top is 3' x 5', 3/16" thick (or thin).Yeah, I'm almost ashamed of the lack of toys in the garage, but it sure made life easier when putting the table together. Now there's more room for a plasma and maybe a rack for scraps and such TodHH140HF 4x6 band saw (cut straight right outta the box!)"-Of all the things I've lost... I miss my mind the most."
Reply:Tod,  As stated above, nice and simple.  Is that 3/16 top gonna be thick enough with only one cross brace under it?  I made one very similar to your table using 3/8" top and worried that one cross brace would not be enough support.  I envy your garage space.  I had to put my table on casters so I can roll it into the corner when not in use.  Don't worry about the ugly welds, they will get better with practice.  Attached ImagesNctox,  Stickmate LX  235AC/160DC  HH210
Reply:No bad. As said nice and simple. You may find you need a few extra supports for the exp. metal at the bottom. You might also find a bar on the side helpful, for holding clamps like you show at the bottom right now..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:nctox - I was wondering the same thing. I'm not planning on doing much beating on it, just using it as a platform. I may end up adding a couple more braces running the other way. I did notice that it has that hollow "ringy" sound when struck. Maybe I'll beef it up a bit, just for the sake of doing it.DSW - yep, gonna add braces under the exp metal shelf. I'm thinking 2 should suffice. I think I'm going to add some round bar here and there for hangers and such. I'd like a couple posts for storing cutoff wheels, flap disks and what not.I'm also thinking about adding a full length drawer under the top for storage.TodHH140HF 4x6 band saw (cut straight right outta the box!)"-Of all the things I've lost... Reply:You can get a lot done on a table like that.  Nice work. You've got a lot of room for tool storage, now.  I used a couple 1-1/4"x1/8" straps on the short end of mine for holding grinders:(You can see, I also store my table saw under that table.)One other idea is to use a jig saw with a bimetak blade to round the corners off, if there's any chance you're going to catch it with your hip.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:That is a nice table and as far as the empty garage is concerned, now that you have a welder, table, and a little space, you'll start bringing home every freeby, scrap, great deal known to man and you will be jammed up just like the rest of us. Enjoy that space while you can.

Reply:Jack,Is that a garage shop or an operating room?Very clean and organized!
Reply:aint nothing wrong with my shop. i can walk through it. when i cant i clean it up.
Reply:I know, it's all cleaned up for the pictures.  But it gets plenty ugly when I'm using it.Here's a shot that shows what I did to the two exposed corners of my 3/16" top welding table.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Hip caught on rusty edge of welding table equals a whole lot of ugly.nice table btw subzero
