At least not till I finished that bathroom I started in November. And probably not till I finished that kitchen ceiling - been a few years now. This is a building attached to my house. It was an old bakery. Downstairs is my wife's painting studio. Upstairs was a spave we rented out to friends. It became vacant in December. So I said to myself, 'I bet there are some nice timber trusses above that ceiling. Shouldn't take much to rip all that down.'80 square meters of ceiling. 100 years of dust.A couple of before 'pics'. Attached ImagesYeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.

Reply:Coming out the other side now.I've finished one quarter of the ceiling. It's over 6 metres up to the apex of the roof, so I had to build a platform to do the ceiling. I had forgotten how much I hate doing ceilings. And how good I am at them.No steelwork, sorry. Attached ImagesYeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:Any idea how old that building is? Seems like only two states of old old wood. Either it's dry and weightless or hard as rocks. So you're making/leaving it open then?
Reply:It's a bit over 100 years old, Sandy. Those trusses are oregon. That big bean at the bottom of each one spans 8 metres. They're ten inch by 5 inch.Yeah, it will be open. There are three trusses and so four spaces. The middle two will be completely open - one is finished. I'm going to put a mezzanine down each end. Above one, I will take out the roof so it will be a roof deck - some tricky waterproofing issues there.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.

Reply:It's a bugger of a job, jman. But it will be a great space.I'm amazed at how straight that timber is, Sandy. I guess it's been well braced by the other ceiling timbers and so hasn't twisted. All I've done to it is brush it by hand with a wire brush and go over it with the vacuum cleaner.Yeah, I carry.House keys, wallet, some change, usually a newspaper, maybe a pen.
Reply:Looks great. I was afraid you'd have torn it all down to find nothing but junky framing and had to close it all back in. Been there, done that for a customer..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
