What is the ideal argon pressure when tig welding aluminum with 3/32" and #6 cup.I use 12 to 15 lbs. just wondering if there is an ideal setting .Thanks Jim
Reply:Gas flow settings for mig/ tig are measured in either cubic feet per hour (CFH) or Liters per minute rather than PSI like you would set an oxygen or act reg.Gas flow can also vary depending on whether you are running a standard cup and collet assembly or using a gas lens. For a gas lense you usually can reduce your gas flow and get similar coverage to a normal cup due to the better flow characteristics with a gas lens.We usually set the gas flow for the students doing 1/8" alum with a gas lens at 12-15 CFH. We'd usually go slightly higher, say roughly 20 CFH with a standard #8 cup. As long as you are getting good coverage with your settings and don't show any signs of contamination, you are fins as long as you are not working to a specific code..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:Thanks DSW for the info. The regulator that I am using looks like a oxygen  regulator with 2 dials,One shows the tank contents lbs. pressure and the other shows CFH. I thought it was lbs. pressure.Shows what I know,
