I'm building a lean to off of my garage and I am ready to build some doors. The only issue I have is that when I build the doors.. there is going to be some 1 1/2" hat channel and then some 1 1/4" sheet metal on that. So when the doors swing out.. they're not going to clear the wall. I'm probably not giving the best description.. but I need to build some hinges basically that will swing it out to clear. I can draw up a pic if needed.
Reply:A pict will certainly help. Usually as long as the barrel of the hinge is out past the wall and at the outer edge of the door, it will swing 180 deg and clear. It's only when the barrel isn't out all the way that you have clearance issues. If you post up A pict I can probably mark it to make better sense..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:This is the project in question. There will be two doors... each will swing out. The hinges will have to be welded to the angle iron.http://weldingweb.com/showpost.php?p...1&postcount=14
Reply:See if this makes sense. You need the barrel of the hinge out past the outer edge. Make the flats of the hinge long enough to reach the supporting material. On a heavy door, you may have to wrap the hinge flats at a 90 deg angle to gain more support area. I noted the hinge in green on your drawing, and showed the heavier supporting hinge in the "open" drawing.Hope this makes sense. Attached Images. No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Would a hinge like they have on refer trailers/trucks work. They fold back along the sides of the trailer and fit tight together when closed.... at least till some dip$hit backs into the door.
Reply:I think I'm going to go with DSW's idea. I originally wanted it all hidden but that's probably going to be my best option. Plus I don't want to over-complicate it anymore than I need to.. Thanks Gentleman |
