Why get a Dually truck rather than a Pickup truck for pipeline? What's the big deal? I've asked a few people this and only one of them could give me a good answer. It was "the regular pickup truck will lean to the back and the Dually will just stand firm. Is this accurate or not?
Reply:Duallies carry more weight, better."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:Well for true pipeliners, you need a dually to tow your camper and haul your welder at the same time.  Personally 4 rear wheels are better if you blow out one at 75mph, less chance of a roll over with all that weight of a welding machine in the back.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A  Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers
Reply:Ditto on the dually carries the weight way better.    If you have every blown a rear tire on a single axle pickup loaded to capacity traveling highway speeds you will know the reason for the duallys.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:More tire surface area on the ground means less sinking into the soft ground found around pipeline construction areas. More traction, too along with greater weight carrying capacity.
Reply:The capacity of the single tire does not match the capacity of the truck. To get the most out of the truck you have to have duals.
Reply:If you ever do any towing of significant weight or length of trailers, you will find that duallys are far superior in stability and handling compared to a standard single axle truck.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Yup, duallie for the work truck. I am on the verge of needing a 10 wheeler with all the crap I carry.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:LMAO, I scaled 14,700 without me in it before I mounted my compressor. I guess an 11' body chockablock full of tools, and a crane will do that to a rig.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Yes duals give more load stability.  Look at where you will drive.  Out here lots of the the triving is on 2 track trails that duals don't fit well then a single is nice to avoid severe abuse on the edges of tires.  If you are looking along grade the duals will win because they float more than a wide single tire.  You can almost buy 4 tires for duals for very little more than 2 tires for single when you look at loads
Reply:also you have extra bearings one inside and one outside . better on the axles. but 2 wheels each side is better for safety .

Reply:If you are trying to get broke out, you don't Wana stick out like a sore thumb. Everybody on the ROW (Welders) run duallys and 4x4. If you can't get to it you can't weld it, if you can't weld it, you go home.A stable of 200sCuz Jesus doesn't love people with blue welders.
Reply:I have seen 3500 crew cabs SRW's with the semi floater.   Don't know if it was factory or not but they are out there.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I have to call bullplop on traction being better. All else true, but I have seen duallies spin 'em up something fearsome at the launch ramp. More flotation can equal less traction by my reckon.Splittin' frog hairs til school starts back up....See, look at that duallie!!!  Attached ImagesCity of L.A. Reply:My dually would pull the boat off a slick ramp better than my Buddy's 4x4.   So much so we just started using my truck to drag the boat around every time. the truck in the water is an SRW anyway.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Why did the Military go to single rear wheels or tandem on all new trucks?
Reply:i have heard that military argument before and you really cant base anything the military does on civilian useses.     Try buying one of those super single tires they use and tell me how quick you want to switch back to a dually tire.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Dualies, buy 6 tires instead of 4, also off road they pick up rocks between the tires and get more flats, I have a friend that spent 6 months in Baja, and couldn't figure out why he got so many flats, finally a Mexican tire guy showed him. Reply:Nice old miltary 6x6, many moons ago I had 6 old miltary trucks, 3 ambulances, 2 6x6's and a weapons carrier, all WWII vintage. Then I got married end of story for my old army truck collection. After I finish up the one I am completing right now ( Dodge 3500 commercial Dually ) I figure I have 1 more truck in me before I give it up, what you might ask? A older Diamond Reo I am thinking with a international 466 or a cummins, I want the chrome like these:Back on topic, welder, bed, bottles, cable and hose reals then add a trailer, just too much wieght for non dualy trucks as they are built today, its possible to make a non dually that would get in that range heavier front and rear axles, real 19 or 22 inch truck tires with a F or G series rating, but not enough interest to manufacture them, international tried but they were way expensive and quickly discontinued. I have also seen some converted F-600/700 Fords.Wieght on my truck is right around 13,500 without compressor.
