So I have to write a paper on TIG welding Magnesium, I am not looking for someone to do the work for me but I have not been able to locate any good articles ect. I do not want to go the wikipedia route unless I have to haha. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
Reply:If you have the time, I'd suggest contacting the suppliers of magnesium and its common alloys, asking for any information they have. Might try the same with some of the welding rod suppliers who deal in the metal; both should have detailed knowledge I'd assume you want. You might also look up specs and regs from AWS and/or ASME, maybe the Aircraft industry, ....how many chapters do you want the report to be?
Reply:Two of the first three hits from googling 'welding magnesium' should do you. One is Magnesium-Elektron, their site is FULL of magnesium specific info and includes pdfs on weldability, alloys, heat treatment, machining, applications etc. The other is this key-to-metals article... http://www.keytometals.com/Article35.htm
Reply:Thanks guys, the link hotrodder provided along with some of the stuff I had already obtained should be more than enough. The paper should only be about 5 pages max, the main thing is the 10 minute presentation. Not sure I can talk for 10 minutes straight but if I come up with some good pictures and graphics I might be able to fake my way through it. Thanks again! |
