My shop as it sits right now is a cement floor with block walls about one foot high with 2x4 studded walls. I plan on insulating the walls and ceiling. Now when it comes to covering the walls would it be ok to cover them with 7/16 inch osb and putting corrugated metal  three feet up from the block. How does that sound? Keep in mind I live in Minnesota.Lincoln Ranger 250 GXTLN-25Lincoln Magnum SG and ModuleAirco HF BoxMiller 304 XMT CC/CVMiller 60 Series FeederMiller Syncrowave 250O/A SetupIt's a dog eat dog world and i'm wearing milkbone underwear
Reply:myself, I'd stick with the OSB...I'm not a fan of metal walls in a shop as there's nothing to absorb the noise.Thermal Arc Fabricator 2101970 Lincoln RedfaceMiller 150 STLStill need a Syncrowave and a plasma and a milling machine and a lathe and a bigger shop and a....
Reply:I'd go w/ 5/8" sheetrock.                                             MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw
Reply:I vote for 5/8 "fire rated" sheetrock. Tape and seal the seams and the joint between the block and the sheetrock to guarantee that no sparks can get in there. It you think you will want to hang tools, shelving, etc. on the walls put 1/2" OSB or plywood on the walls behind the sheetrock. This will hold screws no matter where you drive them in. It's more work and cost, but very much worth it.CharleyMiller MM252Miller Bobcat 225NTMiller DialArc HF / DIY Cooler2 Victor O/A TorchsetsMilwaukee 8" Metal SawMilwaukee Dry Cut "Chop" Saw 5 Ton Wallace Gantry Various Grinders, Benders, etc.
Reply:Keep an eye out for someone replacing an above ground swimming pool. The pool wall is an ideal corrugated thirty foot plus roll of sheet metal, primed and ready for paint as well. Or perhaps your local scrap yard has some, you may even find one made of aluminum.
Reply:i used osb caulked the seams, couple coats of primer and a coat of paint looks good. not smooth like I would have liked but I am not a carpenter either. Rubber base board on the bottom caulked both seam to try to make it easy to clean. Reply:The building code where I live requires 5/8 shetrock for a 1hr fire rating if the shop is attached to living space.  If your shop is not attached then 1/2" (1/2 hr fire rate) rock is xceptable. If your bootlegging it in and on a budget, I would and have used 1/2" then if you like, put you corragated panels up if you like. BTW, I sheetrock/metal frame for a living.  I weld for fun.  I wish it was the other way.
Reply:for insurance reasons i would make it fire rated
