Reply:Looks pretty damn good to me!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:WOW that's pretty damn good. How were you back purging it?If I had the cash I would love to fool around with the Ti.Miller Syncrowave 180SDMillermatic 175
Reply:Great to show your test coupons. You might add a little as to what you bent and why. What criteria is used to discern acceptance or rejection.Nice work TJ
Reply:Chris, looks good especially for the first try!-Did you do this in a glove box, etc? -Tip on prepping coupons for bend test-Sand, then polish the edges as outlined in yellow as well the cut edge of the plate;after welding, before bend. The final sanding/polishing should be running alongthe length of the edge--not across it. This is to prevent ragged edges or surfacesfrom creating cracking extending into the weld area. Some test procedures may require sanding both sides of the weld-flush,again sanding/polishing along the length of the coupon--not across it.http://weldingweb.com/attachment.php...1&d=1219334147 Attached ImagesBlackbird
Reply:Looks like those were done in the open to me as some blueing is visible. Trailing shield, monster ceramic? All passed so
Reply:Those look AWESOME!So what are we building from zirconium?
Reply:thanks guys, my formen just about **** a brick when he had seen my welds I gess most people dont expect this from a 17 year old on his first try but I was happy with my self too. now to the procedure first thing was to prep the plates file down the bers on all sides then wire bush all sides next was wipe down the plate and filler rod with acetone. after that I set up my backing and trailing block purges . now with ti and zr you cant let eny carbon or oxygen into the weld pool thats why you use a purg backing and trailer. with this you can see that my welds are all silver color witch is good eny color is a no no! now there is some color on thies but it is not on the weld but on the parts where the Trailing shield did not cover. now if this was say arospace stuff that calls for no color so these would not pass but most of the time when you doing arospace work you are using a 100% arogon purge tank so that you dont have to worry about a Trailing shield not covering all off the plate that is above 700 degrees. Hope that helps if you have eny more qestions just ask!Millermatic 211 with 150 spool gunDynasty 350 Hypertherm powermax 30XP |
