Well I'm looking at buying a new trailer and I thought i could probably have someone on here make me a better one for a comparable price.I'm looking for a 36-40 footer tandem axle dually ... Theres a few custom features I'd like to have done to it but nothing major...Anyone interested? My timeline would be 2-3 months I will need it completed and I would sign a contract for someone if you get me a bid Adam
Reply:Where are you located Adam? How far would you drive to pick up the trailer?Benson's Mobile Welding - Dayton, OH metro area - AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Reply:You might want to post your location. Then any trailer builders in your area may be willing to help you out. Usually isn't a good idea to do custom work for some one on the far end of the country, or possibly the world for that matter.
Reply:I am located in Williston ND... But our economy is so strong I would never get anyone around here to build it.... I have relatives in ohio so thats not a problem, and i make it to texas and wyoming frequently.
Reply:I wouldn't mind seeing a pic of a factory built trailer similar to what you want. Not that I'm volunteering, but I haven't ruled it out yet. Building a trailer is really hard to do for what you can buy one for. Especially if you are building it to sell.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Email me directly with your specifications and I'll quote the job. As Boostin' mentioned, it won't be cheaper than a trailer built by a larger company. I can't compete with them on raw material pricing. But...If I build it, it will be done correctly and it will be exactly as you specify. For a project of this nature, I would need a deposit to cover the cost of all purchased parts and raw material. Still interested, then please get in touch.www.bensonmobilewelding.com Originally Posted by rebel102285I am located in Williston ND... Reply:As mentioned by others, a built trailer is seldom cheaper than a store bought one. BUT you can do all sorts of things that you couldn't easily have done with a store bought one. Want ramps that store under from the rear, or maybe ramps that store from the side, or fold up ramps? Deck height, width, drive over fenders, inset lights, special tie downs, extra heavy axles, but a lighter GVW to stay under 10K... The list goes on and on..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:What I would want a price on is just a standard 40' goosneck tandem dually trailer... I can figure options later but if you could PM me a guesstimate on just the trailer that would be a great help

Reply:In a trailer the size you're asking about, there's very little that's standard:What are you transporting? How much weight do you need to carry? How wide do you need the trailer to be?Ramps? How long, how wide? how/where are they stored on the trailer? What are you using to pull the trailer? How long does the gooseneck need to be?What do you want the trailer deck made of? Wood? Diamondplate Steel? Solid deck or just channels for vehicle wheels?Do you want electric or hydraulic brakes? What type, size, and weight rating hitch are you connecting the trailer to?What type of attachement points do you need to secure the load? How many? What color do you want it painted? Will you load and unload the trailer when it's not attached to the tow vehicle?Do you need stake pockets for removeable sidewalls? What kind of storage locker do you want or need onboard? The list goes on from here. The options you want will alter the design of the trailer...There are many questions that need to be answered before anyone could or should quote you a price. I suggest you do a google search on 40' gooseneck trailers if you're just shopping around.Get back in touch when you know exactly what you want and what you can afford. Reply:What are you transporting? I haul oilfield hotshots so it could be joints of pipe one day and a well head or frac tree the next. How much weight do you need to carry? I would like the trailer to have a gvwr of 25,000 give or takeHow wide do you need the trailer to be? The width I would like is the max allowable which i believe is 100"Ramps? How long, how wide? how/where are they stored on the trailer? NOPEWhat are you using to pull the trailer? 1 ton dodge rams (no flatbeds)How long does the gooseneck need to be?I would like the deck to be 36-40' and the GN riser I would like it to be 6" taller than a standard riserWhat do you want the trailer deck made of? Wood? Diamondplate Steel? Dont care, wood does just fineSolid deck or just channels for vehicle wheels? Must be solidDo you want electric or hydraulic brakes? Electric one axle is fineWhat type, size, and weight rating hitch are you connecting the trailer to? I would say the 30K rated 2 5/16 GN BallWhat type of attachement points do you need to secure the load? How many? The only attachement points i would want would be 4" winches mounted every 4 feet on the Drivers side, and a stake pocketWhat color do you want it painted? whatever you have lying around... black implement enamel holds up wellWill you load and unload the trailer when it's not attached to the tow vehicle? possibly never really know when your hotshottingDo you need stake pockets for removeable sidewalls? Definately, we put bars in the stake pockets to prevent pipe from rolling off during loading or unloading, also on the few occassions we sling a chain we would need these as anchor points. What kind of storage locker do you want or need onboard? one chain locker up front, and a 4x4 storage rack on the side would be handy as hellThe list goes on from here. The options you want will alter the design of the trailer...There are many questions that need to be answered before anyone could or should quote you a price. I suggest you do a google search on 40' gooseneck trailers if you're just shopping around. been there done that! I am not shopping around I want to buy one and figured I would give someone here a chance to build me one better than an off the lot PJGet back in touch when you know exactly what you want and what you can affordI know what I want, as for the cost.... I dont mind paying over what a factory built cost but dont want to get raped on the price.... also FYI this isnt my first trailer or my last... and ive hauled more loads in 2yrs than most have in their lives
Reply:I called up a trailer dealer just to see how much they would run... for a 2010 PJ 40' Straight Deck Low Pro (sits 5" lower than the standard" with a front chain locker and LED lights would be $7895
Reply:Not that it will matter much, but with that weight you'll have to have brakes on both axles to be legal. I was a bit surprised how low that price was for that weight a trailer, but I saw one similar to what you listed on ebay for about that price, so I guess thats close..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Good deal. Your answers make it a whole lot easier to give you a realistic quotation. ~$8000 is what I found for mass manufactured trailers in that size class. PM your direct email address to me, and I'll forward you a quote for the job.
