Hey guys, I'm an artist and looking for the best way to attach ball chain (like you would use with dog tags) to a piece of strap metal or bar stock shaped into a circle2 questions...1) What thickness of metal would you use? I want to shape the flat stock into a circle.2) What method would you use to attach long lengths of chain side by side to the metal (imagine making a curtain out of it)? I have a soldering iron, OA torch setup, and a small mig. Thanks for the help!
Reply:I would think that brazing would be the best, but you'll end up with brass color at the join.Soldering would work too -- and would end up with a silver joint.Either process will require a nice, clean site for the join.bob
Reply:kinda hard to know without knowing exactly what you're doing. if it were me, based on what you've said, I'd use really thin metal and just slot it to act like the clasps for the ball chains. But then again, I don't know what finished look you're going for, or how many pieces of chain you'll be using, etc. There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:You may have to silver solder it if the chain is very tiny.
Reply:I have thought about slotting it, but there are going to be hundreds of these right next to each other. This is the closest thing I can find to what I want it to look like... Attached Images
