I have a old jeep that I got 2 years ago I am down to the fuel tank it has some glue on 2 places rust. It probley has more. I was thinking of soldering it.I have built tanks but I dont have time this summer.
Reply:Check with J.C. Whitney, they carry all kinds of replacement parts for almost all model years of old jeeps. By the time you pull the tank and patch a few holes and put it back, then pull it again WHEN it starts leaking again from rust leaks your better off installing a new repro tank than messing with a rust problem that keeps cropping up. If it were external sheet metal(which they have that too) that would be different. But with the price of gas these days it's probably best to replace rather than repair a tank that will continue to rust out and have to be removed over again for another patch job. J.C.Whitney.com I think is their web address but not sure, they will send you a free catalog if you contact them. The stuff is made in the Phillipeans, but they still have WW II jeeps on the road over there because of the industry making the parts for the old jeeps, even if yours doesn't date to that time.
Reply:My jeep is a 1952 M38a1. I can get a new one for 370.00 but I dont have the extra cash write now.
