Reply:What type of welding? I would suggest running a flap disk over the metal before you weld, it works better.Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Thanks to the esposa! Finally got an O/A setup

Reply:Looks like you are moving too fast in most of those picts. You also might be using material that's close to the max for that machine. It's hard to tell with no reference or info.Post up as much info as you can and guys here will try to help you learn. Machine,  heat and wire feed settings used, FC wire or solid and gas if applicable, material and thickness and so on. The more we know ( and less we have to guess) the better the suggestions can be.The real key to getting better will be lots and lots of practice. I'd suggest you flip a chunk of that angle iron over and tack on some legs so it forms a "V" and start running beads one right next to another, cooling the metal down after every bead or two with angle that thin. Try and over lap each bead by 50%. This will give you practice with gun angle, stick out length and travel speed, and allow you to make the most of your material with out costing a fortune. When you can consistently make decent beads, then move on to joints. You can also do the same exercise with a chunk of 3/16" or 1/4" flat as well. What you want to do is try and get every thing as consistent as possible and learn to "see" whats going on in the puddle. You need to learn what is flux and what is molten metal and then learn to manipulate that puddle to do what you want. Ignore the arc and concentrate on what's happening around it.There's no solution to this but hood time. Some pick it up quickly and some don't. Don't get frustrated if it seems to be taking forever. At some point all the little things you are seeing will suddenly snap into place and it will all make sense. Good luck..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
