A while back there was going to be a "shootout" with the Chineze welders. Is this still on? Or did all of the pickering put a stop tp it?I was interested in the out come. I was pulling for Giant tech guy, but was interested in whichever welder won.Tim Beeker.
Reply:I have a 140 amp stick weldler and  160 amp Tig/Stick/40 Amp Plasma I have been reviewing and would be glad to compare profrmance/capabilities agains a machine with a similar power rating. I may not have the combo machine much longer and my air supply is limited but I would love to compare the welding capabilities to a similar "domestic machine". I had spoken to somneone on another forum with a MaXstar 150 that mentioned doing something.I was thinking something like burning x rods of x size in x minutes and seeing if everything kept working. Maybe even exceeding the duty cycle checking out the overheat protectionA set procedure to be used on both machines.Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
Reply:There was a thread not long ago where some people were going to do a head to head comparison of the two on this site plus GiantWelderGuy, if I got his name right, don't recall if it ever happened. It just seemed to go away.  I have all name brand stuff but may consider a chi-comm for dirty on site, may get damaged or stolen, type of work.Tim Beeker.
Reply:The test faded to black.  NO one came up with a machine for the tester to use.  It never happened although there were willing testers.Just a note.  I have a Invertec V155-S.  I did a review on it, exceeded the duty cycle big time and it just kept going.  Never seen the over temp light on.  It just works.  The machine paid for its self in a month or two.  I have posted the jobs I did with it.  Its an awesome welder. Here is the review of the Lincoln.   http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ghlight=V155-SDavidLast edited by David R; 09-14-2008 at 07:12 AM.Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:David,I read the thread. Seems similar to what I did with the MM140 I have. I don't think it is dual voltage though. Would you be interested in doing another comparison? We could each do or own. Or if you like, I could possibly send you mine. I am not sure how much shipping etc. would cost. I am pretty sure we could compare them without both of us having the other machine.  Did you burn any 1/8" 6010/11 with yours ? Thats where I notice the occasional cutting out more.GeraldHave a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
Reply:I have not burned 10 lbs of 6011 in my life.  Maybe 20 of 6010.  I most always run 7018.I don't know what more tests I could do, I check the amp output, its spot on, and the duty cycle seems to be a lot more than they  say. What other tests are there?I did some tig with it.  http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=22226DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I was able to setup the $200.00 machine earlier. I ran a root in half of a 6" Pipe Coupon and Hot Passed it with 1/8" 6011, then filled and capped with 1/8" E7018. There was no pausing between rods. Paused between layers just long enough to chip slag. After the root I ran 8 rods of 1/8" 7018 to cap. Took about 4 minutes to get a few pics then ran 7 rods of 1/8" 7018 back to back without chipping slag. The machine kept on truckin but it got dark and I was attracting some bugs. So I quit. The features on the invertec look nice though. I think it is probably in another class .Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
Reply:I am trying to find an ammeter and then verify the output. I timed the length of time to burn a 1/8" 7018 on the video and it looked like about 1 minute 10 seconds down to a 1-1/4" stub. I did the pipe weld then right to the beads with 7018 but stopped when it got dark. The rating on the Longevity machine is 60% at 120. I had the amperage turned all the way up (140) and I am pretty sure I exceeded the duty cycle since each rod takes over a minute and the pause was less than seconds between each. BUT I am not sure I was really getting 140 amps output. Here is the root. It may be a little rough but the machine handled it OK.Here is a pic of the rootThe Cap from the bottom.http://weldingdata.com/WelderReviews...0147medium.JPGAnd the beads I ran back  to back without chipping.http://weldingdata.com/WelderReviews...0151medium.JPGHave a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
