I have an old mig in the shop I got for free (the transformer is not working) I also have a lincoln ac/dc stick welder. can I use the stick welder lead attached to the mig to be the weld sorce? The mig feeder and gas valve work fine. I would not run the weld power through the contactor it would just be live at all times. So is there a big difference in the weld source needed the mig and stick weld. If it would not work am I correct to assume it would work for flux core wire.
Reply:MIG is a constant voltage process, TIG and stick are constant current.9-11-2001......We Will Never ForgetRetired desk jockey. Hobby weldor with a little training. Craftsman O/A---Flat, Vert, Ovhd, Horz. Miller Syncrowave 250
Reply:To emphasize it, I've tried it, and it doesn't work. I put stick leads on a Miller CP-200, 3-phase MIG power source. It couldn't stay lit and wouldn't make a puddle.
Reply:cool good to knowI have 2 other migs so no prob would have just done it cause I could for the sake of doin it.lol |
