I was having my slag peel off all day in the flat position. Now that I've moved on to the horizontal I've only seen this once or twice. I notice that the slag tends to flow downwards away from the top of the bead. Do you normally see less off this peeling slag on the horizontal than the flat position?Doing a T joint in the horizontal position doing multiple passes, is it okay to lay the first bead at the top and lay the next ones below? Finally, for now, is 30 rods a lot to be burning in a day? Or in four hours? Student on a mission. Be the best. If I can't be the best I sure as hell won't be the worst.
Reply:I put the first bead in a T joint right in the root. If its the first, I run it hot. Slag peels when the work is really clean, you have a short arc and the heat is right. I will have to try in the horizontal position. It still comes off really easy right?30 lbs rod in a day is a lot.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor. |
