I just finished my first project with a mig welder i recently picked up, using flux core. There was a bit of a learning curve as I've never used flux core, but it turned out pretty good. There is plenty of space on the table for add on's.
Reply:I like the design but have a question. Is the gap on the bottom leading edge so you can sit in front of the table, or for something else. If it were me, and a sitting area/place to shove the chair under, I would throw in a few corner supports like this: Attached ImagesCome try it out and stay a while.
Reply:I like the table design.. it nice and simple. I plan on doing something similar, but with 2" square tube instead of angle. Was it cheaper/easier to use 3 plates for the top than a single plate? What thickness is that?I agree with rusty that it probably could use some additional support on that one side, but Im a noob so cant say where.Otherwise, good work.. keep it up!Sam
Reply:I just wondering why your welder is at the bottom as it would be much more accessible if it were just under the table top. Oh yea, one other thing, when mom goes through the laundry basket and finds little tiny black holes in everything, you might want to make that table a little more mobile as in outahere.
Reply:Nice table using some 'inexpensive' Angle.... That's the way to do it. I like the idea of the three (3) plates as well.... You'll get FAR less (if any) warping this way. The only thing I might add is a crossmember on the right, bottom side somewhere between middle to two thirds back and add a shelf for Tools, Clamps or whatever... This way you'll have some added stability, more weight on the bottom so it's not so top-heavy and you'll still be able to slide your chair in and out.Just my .02....Either way, 'Nice Table' !Cheers,/J....Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:sweet table.. looks good, im about to do something similar.. i need to make a small table that utilizes space efficiently just like that.. good design.

Reply:Oh Yea, between the gringing the the welding debris so close to the clean laundry it is only a matter of time before Momma starts to raise a little hell. Maybe if you just do not play on days that the whites are being done you can get by for a little while. Great looking table
Reply:Yeah, those clamping options are SWEET ! I didn't even think about that... Well done.Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
Reply:I finished building a shelf on drawer slides for my table today, I wanted a short welding surface on the table for tall projects or when I want to sit down. I used heavy duty drawer slides, up to 250lb capacity. . Plenty strong.I also built some frames to hang welding blankets on, just a precaution. You can see them in the background.Last edited by Hildreth; 03-25-2010 at 10:46 PM.

Reply:Hildreth...Nice table! I need a couple like that. I really like the segmented top design. I'm used to tacking angles and bars on my top to locate fixtures and clamps then having to grind them off when I'm finished....sucks.Re non-flammable clamps, I bought one of these from HF to use on the T-slots on a milling machine. Works great. I think I got mine on sale for something like $5. Only problem was I needed to add a spacer at the base of the threaded portion so the adjuster screw cleared the mill table.http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=36221Miller 211 w/ spool gunMiller Dynasty 200DXLongevity 60i IGBT plasmaO/A w/ crappy chinese torch/gaugesSouth Bend 10K latheGrizzly 4029 10x54 millGrizzly 7x12 hor bandsawangle grnders, bench grnder, bench belt sndr7.5 hp 80gal cmprsor
Reply:I really like your table! If my dad didn't already build this HUGE(well 4x4 foot) table with really thick plate, I would do something similar. What type of stuff do you plan on welding on your table?
Reply:That table is a very economical way to get going on things, and the sectional top is a good idea...I made a cart for my mig so the fall out didn't scar the pretty thing up but I wish I would of kept it like you have it, as you have it all right there without moving a few carts and tables....I need a huge table I'M getting to old to use the floor for the large projects LOLanyone donating a 4x8 plate for my table or a couple of em Lincoln 225 Tombstone,Miller Big 20,Hobart 180,150' Argon,A/D hobart hood 22 Ton Log splitter,79 F350 dump eats 4.75 TONS and still turns cutters, grinders,And a Hypertherm POWERMAX 30
Reply:I like that table, but I would never have my MIG welder in it, my projects are too big and I need to be able to move the welder around to weld it all, would be a pain to have to manuver a whole table around a tube chassis.. But I'm gonna steal the basic design from ya!
Reply:Very nice - thanks for the link to the drawer slides.I have to laugh at the picture where you are standingon your smaller table. If I stood on your smaller table, it would ruin the slides! I'd have to go with the400 lb slides - tipping the scales at 260#+

I'm gonna make some, when I get my shop finished....., that work in the slots. And the porta-crapper just kills me!!!!!
