I have this Mil surplus genset... it's skid mounted, weighing in at 275# It's 36 1/2" long, 27 3/8" wide and 236" tall as is. I want to make it easier to move but not change the "stock" appearance... I'm thinking a cart might move the CG up a bit high. I'm thinking maybe trying some bushings in one of the tubes adding an axle & wheels then some sort of wheelbarrow handles u bolted to the top. the framework is all aluminum.I have to look in my garage loft and see if I have some old parts from a all terrain wagon including the steering linkage. Thoughts?
Reply:Why dont you just build a dolly for it to sit on. Then you wont have to change it at all.
Reply:I've moved it with a plain old dolly and it's kinda awkward with it so wide... thinking a cart might be the way to go... Hopefully I didn't toss those old wagon parts.....

Reply:I 'm in the process of making the cart for my welder using a drawer unit I got from work and part of a compressor dolly (Mil surplus) left over from another project... known as "FrankenKompressor"not so recent mockup of it...( it how has a larger engine)here's the dolly mounted compressor pic:
Reply:I have two of those sitting out back of the house that an old friend bought before he passed. One was operational when it was bought and the other he was going to use for parts. Are they worth anything should I take the trouble to put them on e-bay."I believe that our heavenly father invented man because his was disappointed with the monkey." -Samuel Clemens
Reply:The compressors or gensets? Either way they actually use the same carb which has issues... that's because of ethanol bieng added to gasoline now, it causes the floats to swell and stick. feel free to PM me if you want more info...Matt
Reply:The gensets and I am not entirely sure but I thought they were diesel."I believe that our heavenly father invented man because his was disappointed with the monkey." -Samuel Clemens
Reply:the MEP-016A and MEP-016C have the 4a032 gasoline engine. the MEP-016B and MEP-016D as well as the MEP-016E all have Yanmar deisel engines. There's other models out there Look for a dataplate on there and see what they are. The military under rates them. This is listed as a 3kw but acutally has an output of 4.3kw.The engine should have it's own dataplate, as well as one on the generator side of the set as well.Matt

Reply:RE: Gasoline/Ethanol ProblemsUse Stabil in your gas, it has an additive to combat the tendancy of the alcohol to mess stuff up. In addition, it prevents the varnish buildup associated with gasoline storage."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Finally got up in the loft last night.... found these:Now the question... Wheelbarrow style or Wagon style...........
Reply:Thinking I'm going to order some 1045 "precesion ground" to 5/8" for the axle. I've been using http://www.speedymetals.com for my Aluminum purchaces The local hardware stor has alot of steel but nothing ground. I take a bit of a hit on shipping it but I really don't have anything local that's cost effective.I'm thinking using some plate and making brackets to bolt where the roll cage bolts to the base on the genset. I'll take some 1" aluminum and make bushings to weld into the 1/4" plate that the axle can ride thru. |
