evening allthinking of making a trailer to be towed behind my car, thinking of making a twin axle 7ftX5ft and coupled with a ball hitch to car, max load that it will carry will be 2tonne@30mphnot worried about the frame but not so sure on how to attach brakes to hitch, will get axles of a scrap vehicle of some description and connect upwondering can I beat the manufactuers cost by doing the job myselfanyone got any plans for one haven't come across anything that I can downloadregards,aidan
Reply:Sounds like you want to buy a used one and then modify it to suite your needs.
Reply:From reading all the post about building your own trailer and pricing the parts and steel myself, its cheaper to buy one already made.

You provide your own steel but they will send axle, lights, safety chains, fenders, coupler etc.I think it is a far far stretch to pull a double axle trailer with a car, not to mention every safety issue involved with not knowing what you are doing.UA Local 598
Reply:If you were to find suitable auto axles to fit your needs then no doubt you will be trying to get some sort of use from the existing hydraulic brakes. One way this is done is using a surge brake built into the trailer coupler. For instance you stomp down on the tow vehicle brake and the forward surge of the trailer will "pump" fluid to the trailers brakes. Not the most ideal situation in the world but it is functional and has been in use for a lot of years.
