Hey People,Just wanted to say a BIG THANK-YOU to all you Forum Members with all the help and guidance that you've given me (and TONS of others I might add..) since I've been a member... Honestly, It's TRULY 'amazing' how much I have LEARNED since I started coming to this site and being a LATE starter to the 'introduction' of even "SIMPLE TOOLS", I'm EVEN more of a Happy Camper at how my WELDING has turned out! Here are a few things that I've made thus far;My Mirror from; http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ghlight=mirrorPic #1: All welded up using 3"x3" x 3/16" Angle Iron (backside..)Pic #2: Frontside of the same... (Trying to weld Angle Iron in a 'Picture Frame" is NOT EASY! Yikes..Pic #3: At the advice of several members, I decided to use the 'FRENCH CLEAT' method of hanging my 40lb+ Frame. I might add, What a 'Incredibly' SIMPLE yet EFFECTIVE way to hang something! In the photo you can see that I used adhesive.. That 'LePage PL Premium' was PSYCHO!! I glued a piece of 2x4 30 inches long onto my Concrete Wall and I could hang from it EASILY, doing finger Pull-Ups and that thing wasn't BUDGING!! Truly amazing STUFF.Pic #4: Although the PL was "Kick-ARSE" I chickened out and decided to put a couple of Screws through the top, into the 'Fir Cleat'. Although they look 'high', they are almost flush with the frame and are at the very top so cannot be seen by anyone under 7 foot (End of first post....) Reply:(Post Continued...)Pic #5When I put it on the wall, I could see that it wasn't uhh,... 'very straight', so I had to attach this tab to the bottom left (bottom right looking through the back) so that I could use a drywall screw to 'bring it Flush' to the wall... It's 'tiny' and you can't see it unless you look 'under' the mirror. Reply:(Posting Continued....)Here's the Finished Mirror!Pic #6: Top Left Corner of Mirror... I used the Plasma Cutter around the 'entire inside edge' of the Framed Mirror for a bit more of an effect... I think it looks a bit more 'METAL' than a nice 'perfect shaped cut-out that we always see... Personally I think it turned out rather nice...Pic #7: Right side, middle of the inside of the mirror opening...Pic #8: Bottom, middle edge of opening...Pic #9: Finished! Reply:I needed some decent Rod Storage (don't like my side locker storage) so I made this for my boat.... It fits in 'any' of the Seat Bases, but I use it in the Rear base (also used as the Tow Bar) in front of the Outboard. Holds the rods right where I need them and more importantly,...out of the way.I think this is one of the First things I'd ever made with My Miller! Reply:excellent. i like that hanging method too. I'll try that next time.Did you clear coat your picture frame with something to protect the finish from rusting, especially since its in a humid bathroom?

Reply:Cool...yeah that hanging method just Blew me away! So Simple and yet so effective... Amazing what a guy can learn from a couple suggestions...The Frame has two good coats of "Tremclad Clear Gloss" for metal. I've never tried it before, but I imagine it will seal it up pretty darn good.Cheers,/J..[/QUOTE]Nice job J!!! Great flap work! I like the plasma edge detail too!!! Maybe on your next one you can do the flap work then do some flame painting! I kind chuckled when I saw the wood cleat. You could weld a piece of 1/8' flat bar at an angle on the back of the frame too. Sort of what I was thinking with regards to the frenchy You can make the wall cleat too by making sort of a open angle bracket. A piece of 3" wide flat stock with a groove zip-cut in. Bend along the groove to the corresponding angle and stitch weld it up. Drill mounting holes to hit the wall studs. And Bob's yer uncle, if it wasn't for two nuts he'd be yer aunt.I've used Tremclad for ever and haven't had any problems. With clear coating metal that's clear and shiny, you want to avoid handling it with you bare hands. You can end up with rusty finger prints! Wipe with acetone and just warm up the piece to get rid of surface moisture. Then clear it. I use a roofers torch. The moisture comes to the surface and evaporates. That's as much heat as you need. You should have seen the pile of rattle cans I had before moving. The guys at the recycling depo were laughing when I dropped them off. I told them I did stealth graffiti200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

The metal would likely have been a MUCH better option and I wouldn't have had to put screws through the top! Live and Learn... I heated before the acetone trick and then used nitrile glove to move the beast. Used a foamy for clear coating...(won't do that again) and had to 'fix it' before it dried, using a heat gun.... again, live and learn.. heh, heh..Got another frame to do (smaller one this time) and I'm going to do a bit of flame painting on this unit. Welding and make 'stuff' is TOO MUCH FUN! Before you know it, you're ACTUALLY putting ideas together and MAKING them work... A bit of a learning curve but hey,...before you know it, "Bob's your TWO-NUTTED Uncle" Cheers, /J...Miller Diversion 165120 amp Buzz BoxVictor Oxy/Ace Oxy/LPGSmith "Little" Oxy/LPGHypertherm Powermax 30Lot's of Misc. tools n' crap....
