Like most of the guys on here I too rarely let anything go into the scrap bin.  I recently became the beneficiary of a rather large pile of brand new u-bolts (see the picture).I've got some ideas on what to do with them.  They make good shovel/rake holders for the shed when you weld them to some flat stock and they're good for hose hooks too.  I figure with the pool of creativity and experience here, you all probably got some good ideas too.  Just looking for a little input.  Thanks for any ideas. Reply:Lol, actually when I was dumping them into the back of my truck the fork lift driver here asked me what I was using them for and I said, "obviously you're not a croquest inthusiast"  They'll probably sit in my back yard with the other junk I got and one day I'll be staring at a project trying to find the simplest way to get something done and I light bulb wll go off and I'll end up needing them.
Reply:make j bolts and sell them to a foundation co
Reply:Weld the short piece to vertical risers with a slight tilt up (so anything placed in them would roll or slide in)Space the risers side by side every foot or so and use it as shelving for your short stock.
Reply:with the price of scrap steel being what it is right now ($220/ton) I would say put a couple of $$ in your pocket if you dont need them.
Reply:Sorry.  They are of absolutely no value.  I suggest you send them to me to get them out of your way...(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:Take 4 (or more) and weld up some hose/lead reels...
Reply:my thought  is in the direction of straighten them(little heat and a bending jig) and they will be more useful as project ideas present themselves.they look to be 3/8 or 1/2"?
Reply:They make great handles. As needed cut them back and us the straight parts for other projects.
Reply:Great suggestions.  I appreciate the input.

Reply:Are they the width for leaf springs, as suggested? They can cost from $15- $50+ ea. to get made up or buy.I'd try not to waste them.
