Welding Inconel 600 to 304 stainless

Whats the best value for money filler for joining Inconell 600 to 304 stainless? Previously I've used FM82 for TIG and that works great, but is real expensive here in Australia. Is there a cheaper alternative?I'd like to get something where I'm not having to burn my fingers cause I'm using up every last mm of the stuff cause it's so expensive.Any assistance appreciated.thanksMike
Reply:don't burn your fingers ....tack it to the next rod and use it that way ....as far as a cheaper filler i would have to look into it
Reply:Speaking of Inconel, save even the smallest pieces...Took 125 lbs. of 600 rod to the scrap yard yesterday and netted a cool $187.50. Scrap prices going up so time to start saving the blown (copper) power leads and 304 stainless furnace rails again.Draw it up, Cut the steel, Strike the arc
Reply:Well for joining stainless to Inconel, the recommended stick rod is Inconel 132, for TIG, its Inconel 62.Trivia fact - Inconel was developed in 1937 by the International Nickel Co., which is where the name came from.Sure do miss that Aussie beer.  I used to fly C-135's into Perth, Darwin and Sidney.  I developed a particular fondness for Swan Lager and Imu Export  from the Perth brewery.  But I also liked the 30 oz. Darwin "stubbies".  Gooday on you, mate!

Reply:Oh, well, thought there might have been some other fancy *** rod I could use that was cheaper than the inconel ones.Ha, it's funny, when I started buy the Inconel barsock, they offered to buy back any swarf from machine. I though they were crazy until I got the invoice for the bar! Emu Export - eh! Crap. You want a good beer get into a Crown Larger, Cascade, Boags Premium - man now that's a damn nice beer!Mike
