adding a spool gun to my mig

I am interested in adding a spool gun to my century 145 amp welder. Does any one know how to do all the wiring. It looked like at one time Br welding made a kit and no longer makes it. Looks like its just a switch I'm assuming to shut off the machines wire feed motor. They have 6 or so wires in their switch in their picture. Any help is greatly appreciated

Reply:Sorry I can't help with hooking up a spoolgun to that unit.I'm wondering why you want to hook one up though. If your idea is to do mig alum, you might want to think on this a bit 1st. Mig alum in general is a "hot" process. That makes it a poor choice for "thin" alum. However mig alum needs a fair amount of power. A 180 amp class mig needs to be set pretty much at max to do 1/8" alum. A 145 amp class mig will probably get you 1/16" alum maxed out. At that thickness however burn thru will be very easy. That's usually about the thinnest alum that's doable with a spoolgun and it will take some skill to walk the fine line between cold welds and blowing holes in the material. You are going to sink a lot of money into a gun that will have a very limited range of use on alum.If your thoughts are to use the spoolgun for other things, keep in mind many spoolguns for small machines don't give you much more reach than the standard gun does. That sort of eliminates the added reach idea some go to a spoolgun for. One of my biggest uses for my spoolgun is to get the extra reach to do work on truck racks with my mig..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I've got a big miller tig machine. My little mig is just more portable. It is a 145 amp machine that is 220v. And the spool guns I want to use are only like 150.00 br welding supplies used to make a kit that came with a gun for a few hundred but the owner says he got fustrated with people not knowing how to figure out the instructions to install and quit making that kit. Came with a miller 100 spoolmate those are barely 200. I work by my self with mostly just 1/16 and sometimes 1/8 aluminum. It's just for tacking things together. Saves me a lot of time, and money.
