doing a 9mth course at Dunwoody...I am in my last quarter... I dont have some of my better welds here at home with me as the teacher threw most of them in the display case at school...but any tips and pointers would be great... granted these arent my average ones.. they are the better ones that I have sitting here...I first touched a TiG about 12mths ago before starting weld school (7mths ago) I had about 2hrs of TiG seat time...CornerLittle AluminumStainless rod on standard steel (for colors)stainless tube to plateMy home setup....
Reply:some projects from work...Glass Cart for Athletica (carries Hockey Rink Glass about 8000pds)and another bead from the first 2 days of learning aluminum at school
Reply:Any pic with stick welding?
Reply:I just found some.. they arent the best.. I may try to snap some pics of my trophy ones tomorrow at class... this was first quarter about 2 weeks into stick welding... had maybe welded stick twice when I was 13 on my dads welder when he wasnt home.. couldnt see for 2 days after ha ha ha.. I am now 36I cant remember but I think this one was either vertical up or down...
Reply:do you guys have to weld and bend any 3/8 ot 1 inch test plates because im gradguating from a community college this weekend with an assoiates degree in welding and we had to weld and bend test plates with smaw gtaw fcaw gmaw saw and ofw and smaw pipe and gtaw pipe i dont really know allot about other places but i was just wondering how you did things there
Reply:we did some bend testing but not for grades... we end up with a diploma no certified ratings... just as there is too many certs out there...colleges that say you will leave with Certs is lying.. from what I have been told...
Reply:i dont know who told you that but im certafied under AWS D1.1-00 fot all of the processes that i said earlier. it cinda seems like a waste of time and money to me if you dont leave with certs but thats just my opinion.
Reply:not really cause a lot of jobs need you to cert to their standards...cant just walk into a job saying I am Certified on MiG..ok what 6G, 5G, submerged yada yada.. 1 cert doesnt cover all things MIGit all comes down to what Certs you want or need.. and normally you can test for the cert required by your employer specific to what one they want!I will leave with a Welding Diploma or something.. but the reputation of the school over local community colleges (around here) is what speaks for itself... example... guy in my class has a friend who is going to a community college around our school... 2 months into the 2yr course and they still hadnt touched a welder (physically welded).. we had already gone through OAW, STICK and were on MiG...Last edited by tstrboy2004; 05-06-2010 at 07:16 PM.
