once again having problems with vert up, every now and again at school i do a t-joint in vert up with flux cored but i always mess it up. one time i was welding the t in vert up and i decided to do it in stringer, it felt really good no kickback or anything but when i looked at it, it looked really nice except it looked too cold, the weld was laying on the metal, so then i ran the same t on the other side flat and saw that it was perfect anyway does anyone have any tips for vert up????
Reply:How big is the A measure required to be?Are you spary welding it?¤If you got money, i've got time
Reply:The heat has to be just right. If your first was a little cold, then you did the other side, the plate was warmed up from the first weld.Proper heatSHORT arcElectrode pointed straight in or slightly up.Practice....Practice....Practice.Its a tough thing to learn but well worth the time it takes.David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:What type of wire are you using (brand, electrode designation)? Is it self-shielded or gas-shielded? Without more specific info, I can't give much advice. Listen to what DavidR said and also remember to spend more time on the sides than in the middle. You should actually see the edge of your puddle wet out.
Reply:cant remeber what wire we ran, but we used to weave a inverted "v" holding on the edges for a second to let the puddle fill. On a wide weave we would do the inverted "v" but we would also go horizontaly across from left to right. Like drawing a triangle.Correct heat was the key.think when you are weaving that you are lifting the arc up in the middle so the puddle can set up below you (a little) then you have something to lay your new pool on. You dont need to let it cool much.Oh. and practiceG
Reply:If its the V groove I have found better luck doing a slight U motion weave and doing a 3 count and pausing a bit at the toes to prevent under cut.If your doing a 90 degree joint (T-joint) the x-mas tree triangle works well. Its tough but like said earlier, practice practice practice.Again there are so many variables. Are you using a backstrap? weld it like you own it |
