I did my first MIG welds today, with a bottle of C25 and .025 wire, with my new Lincoln. I'm used to flux core, but I noticed the sound isn't the same as flux core. It doesn't sound as sizzling. I've never MIG welded with gas before so I just want to be sure I'm set up right. The beads I did came out pretty good.
Reply:where do you live because im almost doing the same thing you are in school anywho a properly set up machine should sound like bacon popping really fast(now your using different settings than i am im using .035 wire with 100%CO2 on 30GCF but when i use my miller machine im runnin 19.5 volts 2.4 on the wire speed (so 240 in/minute) on about 3/8 mild steel if your in school like i am were probably using the same metal thickness ER70S-6 im not sure but i think im doing spray transfer short circut
Reply:Yeah, i would def describe it as a fast popping sound. I think I have it setup correctly, I just wanted to double check. The flux core wire welding I've done was more of a splattery sizzling sound.
Reply:It sounds like that playing card you had rubberbanded to your bicycle wheel when you were a kid and took that BIG down hill at 60mph. The pops and spats become impercebtable as it blends into a steady, angry bumble bee sound.Properly set up mig sound can vary slightly though depending on the angle of the gun, amount of stick, and gas out you are using, and "heat" on the machine.Esab Migmaster 250Lincoln SA 200Lincoln Ranger 8Smith Oxy Fuel setupEverlast PowerPlasma 80Everlast Power iMIG 160Everlast Power iMIG 205 Everlast Power iMIG 140EEverlast PowerARC 300Everlast PowerARC 140STEverlast PowerTIG 255EXT

Reply:I was welding with .025 wire on some 1/8th inch thick mild steel. My heat setting was as high as it could go, setting D on my Lincoln, and my wire speed was about 5.5
Reply:Frying Bacon;I have a new Thermal Dynamics Fabricator 190, I have had several migs and this one does not really sound as typical of older migs, I dunno why, but as long as you are getting good welds don't worry. |
