Hello,Has anyone welded with this unit? I just bought one and I'm trying to figure out how to use it. Does the clamp hook on to metal or to a battery and does the wire go through the line and out the nosel? I am new to welding and dont really understand the directions. But I know its should be easy to figure out.
Reply:Ok I think I got it. I ended up feeding the wire through the cable and out the gun thats what threw me for a loop. Now the only other question I had was the ground clamp and I think that connects to the piece of metal I am welding. Is that correct?
Reply:Yes to what you are welding ,or to a metal table that your pieces are on also will work.pro-level dumpster diver                                     Hobart 125EZ
Reply:Thanks, one of the reasons I bought this was to weld a trailor coupler on to a boat trailor. I think its going to be strong enough but not sure. Has anyone tried to weld a coupler on to a boat trailer with this kind of a welder?

Reply:I was just wondering if it would be strong enough and have enough penetrations for that? I think it would but not sure. This is the first thing I've welded and I don't know all the in and out of welding.
Reply:This a joke, right? You don't even know how to hook up the "welder" and the first thing you are going to weld is a hitch on a trailer!Where's Dabar?Tim Beeker.
Reply:I would say the machine is a little small.  I would also suggest learning to weld first.  Practice a bunch, show us some pics and we may be able to help you improve.David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Screw practicing!  You'll pay for electricity for nothing.  Crank up that MIG and weld where it counts, on the trailor.  You'll find out soon enough if it doesn't hold.  Then just weld some more.  Simple as that.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!
Reply:Thanks for all the wise comments. I am also planning on bolting the coupler on so I think this welder will do the trick.

Reply:Sandy, do you still think I'm wrong for saying welders should not be sold to the general public with out some form of training?
Reply:HTG If you are going to bolt it on then why do you want to weld it also? It erks me when people think any mooran can weld. (I am not calling you that). But welding is a science and sometimes a work of art. It is not as simple as buying a welder and pulling the trigger and calling it welding.Welding is understanding the application, the base metal, the right tool, the right conditions, the right procedure and many other things. The people that are true "weldors" earn it with a life time of learning. Please don't take it lightly.Tim Beeker.
Reply:HTG Where are you located?Tim Beeker.
Reply:Well like I said I'm new to welding and don't know anything about it, so all info is appreciated. Dabar39 you don't think this thing is strong enough for a boat trailer?  I came close to burning through one area am i missing something else? Although I don't think I would recomend this welder for heavy equipment its ok for occasional use, I haven't had any problems although it does seem to take awhile to get a good weld. All of my first welds look like a bunch of rain droplets but I if if stays in one place long enough its capeable of a decent weld.
Reply:HTG,As a fellow low time welder What I think the experienced guys are trying to tell you is that:1. You are so new and inexperienced that you need some hands on help.2. The machine you bought (although I have never seen that one) appears to be a very small light duty welder suitable only for repairs on  relatively thin pieces of metal.3. The project you are attempting is one that requires an experienced welder with the right equipment. It is easy to see if you think about it that if your welds fail at highway speeds and your boat trailer crashes into an SUV with a family that you might wind up becoming a mass murderer. In your case (and in mine) I believe that you should install the hitch with high strength bolts and locknuts or better yet look in the phone book for a place that will do it for you. The next time a metal lawn chair cracks when your overweight uncle sits down in it you can use your new welder to make the repair. DO NOT TRY TO WELD ANYTHING THAT WILL BE UNDER STRESS.IF THE WELD FAILS YOU MIGHT INJURE OR KILL SOMEONE.The people on this web are the very salt of the earth and they will help you to learn the basics of welding. The more you learn, the more you will understand how much there is to know and you will decide whether you want to put in the time effort and expense to learn more. Or - you may just want to put your welder up for sale on Craig's List and use the money for some new boating accessories. It is really really important to understand that a welder, any welder is no toy and it can promptly injure or even kill you or someone else around you.  The number one thing  is BE SAFE. I mostly read, read, read this web , practice my welding and keep my trap shut, but I thought that this issue is important enough that I would risk looking like a jerk to be sure you understand the situation. Rest assured that this is in no way a putdown and no one's saying you can't learn to do this stuff, Just take small steps Your fellow newbie - DrBob
